Albion star ready to play dirty
Wednesday 5th September 2007, 5:31PM BST.
James Morrison today pledged to get ‘dirty’ to help add some extra steel to new-look Albion.
The £1.5m summer signing from Middlesbrough admits the Baggies will have to scrap their way to results at times if they are to make an impact on the Championship.
And the 21-year-old is relishing the prospect of rolling up his sleeves for the cause after realising it’s an area of his game he must improve on.
“The manager has talked to me about it and I realise that’s something I have to do,” said Morrison.
“I thought I did it quite well on Saturday, although I got a few kicks as well.
“But that’s all part and parcel of the game and I quite enjoyed it.
“Hopefully I can still improve on that side of the game and push on.”
Morrison is confident Albion will be able to dictate games at The Hawthorns with their football, as they showed by dominating Barnsley in Saturday’s 2-0 win.
But it’s on the road where the midfielder reckons they must really be on their mettle and win the physical battles before they can win the war.
Albion have so far yet to pick up a point on their travels, but after winning at Peterborough in the second round of the Carling Cup that’s something they will be eager to rectify at Bristol City and Scunthorpe later this month.
“We’re playing a good style of football but I think we need to improve on the ‘dirty’ side of the game,” said Morrison.
“On Saturday we managed it. Barnsley were a big, strong team but we matched them.
“Once we can get that into our game regularly I don’t think any team in the league can live with us when it comes to playing football.
“It’s easier to play our football at home.
“We found it really difficult at Sheffield United because they pressed us really hard for the whole 90 minutes and we couldn’t get a foothold in the game.
“We need to be able to do the dirty work first and then play, especially away from home because at The Hawthorns we play lovely football.”

You’ve always had dirty players with no regard for the other player, nothings changed I see.

i think its what we have missed in the midfield a strong tacklin player who aint scared to get stuck in and make the other teams at worried and not think they can just skip along,i think we have got the right squad now to get in the prem where we belong BIONG BIONG

I agree with James, we will need to mix it up away from home which is why a big squad will help us.
To start throw Pele and Miller in away, then go more flair with tex replacing pele at home.
Mow has a good headache every week so admire him for that.

Im glad to see this kind of attitude from one of our players, i just hope it rubs off on the rest of the team?…….if so we,ll have nothing to worry about in getting promotion this season.

In reply to the idiotic comments 1 and 2 Kevin Muscat ring any bells????

When he says “dirty” football he mean not pretty – its the E&S headline that makes it sound bad. We know we have the fancy ball players in the squad, all JM is saying is that we need to be able to compete (or scrap) with teams too.
However I hear Robbo is looking forward to meeting Kitely again….

1 and 2.
Wolves should know a thing or two about dirty players.
Remember Kevin Muscat? How about Keith Downing.
Go back to the 1950′s there was Eddie Clamp.
Talk about pots and kettles.

I should think you should be ready for dirty football as most of your players will be spending alot of their time on their backsides on the turf!! Lol

12 – that makes sense… I’m joking.

16 – I agree with you.
Point 7 says a lot about laughing@dingles. It says he has a sense of humour and is able to ridicule your moronic fans. As for Kightly going to the prem – once again I agree with you… I think we may put a bid in for him when we go up (he would be a decent squad player).
So well done for a good post !
