A car and a lorry were in collision on the northbound carriageway of the motorway close to Norton Canes services yesterday.

Staffordshire Ambulance Service scrambled two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an emergency doctor to the incident, and West Midlands Ambulance Service sent the County Air Ambulance from RAF Cosford, near Wolverhampton.

A spokesman for the West Midlands service said: “When ambulance crews arrived at the scene they found a 4×4 vehicle had overturned after being in collision with a lorry.

“A 12-year-old boy was discovered outside of the 4×4 vehicle though how he came to be there is not known. The crews worked extremely hard to stabilise his condition before he was airlifted with head, neck and back injuries to the specialist paediatric services at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

“The boy’s father was taken by land ambulance to Staffordshire General Hospital with a shoulder injury. A third casualty was taken to the same hospital for assessment.” The lorry driver is not believed to have been hurt.

Here’s wishing him a speedy recovery. I was in a nasty crash at Himley when I about his age, so know all the attention and presents he’s going to be getting will cheer him up. (Milk it son, milk it)

I feel very sorry for the 12 year old boy it sounds like he is lucky to be alive, however as he was found outside the vehicle does this mean he was not wearing his seatbelt? Why do so many parents take the risks with their childrens lives I think there should be severe fines for flouting this law. Does anyone else agree?
