Motorsport Open Day at Catton
Wednesday 22nd August 2007, 7:00PM BST.
The BTRDA (British Trial and Rally Drivers Association) Motorsport Open Day at Catton Hall near Burton upon Trent on Saturday 18 August was a resounding success with over 100 people attending the event.
The Open Day, run by the BTRDA Motorsports Future group, was organised as part of National Motorsport Week and allowed people to experience several disciplines of the sport including Sporting Trials, Autotesting and Production Car Trials.
Reigning BTRDA Sporting Trials champion Duncan Stephens provided passenger rides in his modern car, while his regular passenger Andy Gowen did demonstration runs to thrill the crowd in an older model.
2000 Demon Tweeks Autotest champion and last year’s series runner-up Alastair Moffatt gave passenger rides and tuition all day across the grass autotest course and ended up completing over 200 runs due to its popularity with visitors.
BTRDA director Nick Pollitt, who attended the day, said: “What a fantastic effort from the BTRDA Motorsports Future group for their first ever event and they achieved such a brilliant turn out.
“Everyone who attended had a great day and we should attract new entrants into the fun of motorsport as a result of the event, which is what National Motorsport Week was all about.”
Advice was also on hand to everyone attending, covering introductions to the BTRDA’s range of disciplines, marshalling, finding your local motor club and getting into motorsport.
The BTRDA Motorsports Future is a group of enthusiastic youngsters aimed at developing the sport and introducing new people to motorsport.
