Tom’s double Fringe stint
Friday 17th August 2007, 10:00PM BST.
A Wombourne actor is wowing the crowds in two shows at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Former Ounsdale High School pupil Tom Mason, aged 24, is starring in The Coach and The Bench during the 60th anniversary of the festival, which runs until August 25.
He said: “I graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 2006 with a First Class BA Honours degree in drama and performance. “The Coach is written by Sheahan and The Bench by David Hendon and my first professional paid acting roles were in these shows when they were shown in March and April this year at the Old Joint Stock Theatre, in Birmingham.
“Next Stage Productions with the Old Joint Stock have now been very successful in having both plays given the spotlight and exposure at the highly-rated Edinburgh Fringe.”
Tom will be performing at Venue 260 at the Jury’s Inn, 43 Jeffery Street, Edinburgh, and his shows are being directed by Ian Craddock.
The Coach deals with one man’s obsession with training the perfect football team and The Bench tells the tale of two men who meet on a park bench in their lunch hour, with one trying to sort out the other’s problems. Tom described the productions as “funny, poignant and shocking”.
“I previously played a lead role as Captain Hook in Peter Pan at Wolverhampton’s Arena Theatre,” he added. “And when I was a third-year drama student I appeared in a Raw Theatre production of Tainted, also at the Arena.”
