Leyton Orient v Walsall

Brisbane Road

Kick off 3pm

Walsall boss Richard Money today hinted he could unleash ‘secret weapon’ Darren Wrack in an attacking role at Leyton Orient tomorrow.

The Saddlers manager has been forced to deploy Wrack as a makeshift right-back this season in the absence of injured new-boy Rhys Weston.

But with the Wales international back in full training this week, Money has suggested that both men could play at Brisbane Road.

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be between Rhys and Wracky,” said Money.

“Wracky is filling in at the moment at right-back but Darren Wrack in another position would give us more options and another type of player in those positions.

“It’s not a straight fight between Rhys and Wracky, that’s for sure. It’s just a question of whether we think Rhys is ready to come straight in and play.

“Wracky has done well, his fitness levels are good and I think he has got his running power and his urgency back.

“We know that he is very adept at nicking important goals so at some stage it would be nice to get him back into positions where he can score goals.”

Money admitted, however, that the calf injury Weston picked up in the opening days of pre-season might have worked well for Wrack, who has played almost every minute so far after two years of injury hell.

“Wracky would probably suggest he would have played a lot in another position but we’ll never know for sure,” said Money.

“But we’ve had to play him at right-back and he has got five games under his belt and it’s done him good.

“He’s playing with a bit of confidence and he has gone back there and done well.

“He has proved more than adequate cover at right back but we have missed him in other areas because I believe he can score important goals for the team.”

After tackling Carlisle and Swansea so far in league and Carling Cup action, the Saddlers take on another of the fancied teams in League One in East London tomorrow.

And, while he is encouraged by some aspects of his team’s first two performances, Money has admitted his team are struggling to live financially with the big-spenders of the division.

“I think there are a lot of clubs in the division who have had a bit of a go and Leyton Orient are among them,” he said.

“Jason Scotland, who scored against us for Swansea, was offered to us at the start of the season but if we had brought him in we would probably be playing five-a-side football.

“That’s the reality of where levels of investment are. And it’s the same with Orient, who have taken Wayne Gray and Adam Boyd who unfortunately were both just out of our league.

“It’s pure economics and I’m not sitting her grumbling about it, I’m just trying to make people understand why some of the decisions we make are made.

“Having said that we have competed against two of the better teams in this division and we have competed.

“I don’t think we’ve had our strongest team out yet by any means, I don’t think the team has gelled anything like it will over the next few weeks so there are encouraging signs.”
