Morgan targets Europe
Thursday 9th August 2007, 3:13PM BST.
Steve Morgan today kick started a new Molineux era by declaring: “We want to be a top six club”.
The property magnate officially started work at Wolves today with a bold statement of Premiership intent – and the vision of restoring the club to the glory days of the vintage Old Gold era.
He believes that Wolves can aspire to be as big as his boyhood club Liverpool – and has pledged to use his £30m investment to build a legacy to do previous owner Sir Jack Hayward proud.
“It is my great privilege and pleasure to succeed Sir Jack as the new owner of this famous club and I thank him sincerely for his trust in me.

“I will work tirelessly alongside Jez and the Board, the backroom team and Mick and the players to do my very best for Wolves.
“We will continue to build on the current strategy of steadily and progressively developing a team of young, hungry and talented players.
“Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to play my part in re-establishing Wolves as one of the top teams in the land.
“The loyal fans of this great club deserve nothing less.”
Die-hard Liverpool fan Morgan today heralded his switch of allegiance to the Old Gold of Wolves by insisting: “I can’t wait to thrash them.”
The Cheshire-based millionaire has had a “heart transplant” that has shifted his allegiances to Wolves from the Merseyside giants.
“I would be absolutely delighted to have Liverpool come to Molineux and to see them get thrashed,” said Morgan.
“When I was a kid Wolves were the top team in the country, in 1960 I remember them beating Blackburn 3-0 in the Cup final – even though I was a football mad kid in very, very short trousers at the time.
“It’s ironic that Liverpool were the underdogs at the time because they were in the second division.
“If you support a top team you have a second team lower in the divisions; if you support a team in the lower divisions you have a pet top team and Wolves were my pet top team so I’ve always, always had a soft spot for Wolves.”

Welcome Steve….
Although there will probably only be a new keeper come in now
they reckon that Morgan invested £4m already in the close season…

Brilliant news I think you’ll all agree, No Sandwell comments please just because no one wants to buy your club, I think we will see an immediate change at the first game now we hopefully have a man who wants to take us to the top and not pocket Camera Seol or Lescott money. Anyway heres to an exciting era under Morgan!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Steve Morgan , officially , to Wolves . I am sure that he will be a major benefit to the club and will help guide us back to the premiership where we rightly belong . However , I also feel that we are extremely fortunate to have had such a wonderful benefactor as Sir Jack Hayward for without him I doubt that we would have even had a football team in Wolverhampton . Many many thanks Sir Jack and may your health improve soon . Please keep coming to Molineux we genuinely look forward to seeing you there .
Wolves forever .

Thanks Sir Jack and welcome Mr Morgan! Hope Wolves go foward now and fulfill the dreams of all their fans, local and worldwide, that is to cement a place in the Premier League.
In the past Wolves had decent teams but regardless of some very good players as a team they were not capable of going up.
Now I hope that Mick McCarthy will do a `Sunderland` and take Wolves up at the second attempt as he did at the Stadium of Light.
Best wishes for the new season and for the future to all those connected to Molineux.

LoL this 450 million is nothing in todays football and you need a good manager like TM take find good players cheap and make them into stars….Boing Boing

Yes, thanks to Jack for his money and support that improved the ground and training facilities.
But let’s get this perspective. He didn’t put wolves back on the map, we were in this division when he bought the club and we have spent 25 of the last 26 seasons in this division.
I’d like to see Graham Turner, the Gallaghers, the Council and all the others who brought the club back from the brink in the 80s get more credit.
And all you lot who are already going on about promotion: keep up the spirit of last year.
Here’s to you sir Jack for saving the club and putting so much into it. We will never forget what you’ve done for us. Welcome to the party scouse Steve! Hope your era is going to start with promotion!

It’s truly refreshing to know he has a blueprint set not just for the club but for the fans as well.
Goes to show he does know what the fans want and that’s all that’s needed to get the ball rolling.
Bring back the good times!

Nice post “baggie”
I agree, heres to a good season for both sides of the black country I say.
Welcome Mr Morgan
And Sir Jack, two words, “thank you”.
Hey Baggie! Good to read a friendly message from a baggie fan for once, I’ve never understood the rivalry mentality myself and never had the desire to hurt anyone’s pride in their club so I thank you for your respect.
However, with that said please don’t assume that it’s only the wolves fans that are always posting on the WBA news sections because WBA fans are always posting over here with insults and unfriendly banter. More often than not the Wolves fans retaliate in the Baggies’ sections after being harrassed by Albion supporters who laugh at Matt Murray being injured again, quite sick to be honest considering Murray has never been the subject of rivalry.
Furthermore, I’ve never replied to a WBA news article and I never plan to unless I feel it relevent to me but I do appreciate you and any other rival fans, Wolves or WBA that can support one another or at least hold off their hostilities in favour of maintaining their pride not in their regional clubs, but in Midlands’ football as a whole.

Welcome on board Steve. Promotion please, then filling in of the corners, a few England internationals brought in, a good cup run, and into Europe by 2010. You’ll find we don’t ask for much! Welcome to Wolves.

This is a man not used to failure!!This is the man to guide us back to the big time. A man who is welcome in our club, but thanks to Sir Jack. A shame you were let down badly by previous managers and others around you whom you trusted. No wonder you called it a day. At least Steve Morgan starts off on the right foot!!!
Yes, at last a positive move. Let’s watch and see what he can achieve. Remember so far he hasn’t spent anything over his 10 quid. Hopefully he will take 100% control and the make team what it deserves to be. What the fans deserve. Sir Jack is a nice old gent, but lets not lose track with emotion of his major failings. NOT supporting the team when we last reached the premiership. This was HIS team to keep up there. He didn’t invest when he had the chance. Quite the opposite, he got his money back as it came in because of the tv rights and other bonus’ that came along. Bought no new players and we were as expected relegated. Since that relegation, no real money entered the team other than the 7 mil balloon payment and sale of most of the quality players. Where did that go Sir Jack? To be its good ridance to him and onward with someone who hopefully can make this a premiership team. Shame he has decided to keep Moxey, well hopefully he will figure out and find a proper CEO for the team. I look forward to the change. Never believed it would happen, comes from all the lies that Moxey has laid on us for years. One more change and I think we have a solid operation, Moxey start packing…
Report abuse
Check that pic out! Thats a fearsome quartet if ever there was one! haha!

Reading the two articles on the club’s website makes it blatantly obvious to ALL concerned what a truly tremendous guy Sir Jack Hayward is, his legacy will be remembered for a long long time. He is 100% Wolverhampton Wanderers!
Welcome on board Steve Morgan – you have one hell of a task in following Sir Jack – I believe you are up for the challenge!!
Come on Wanderers!!!!

Boing Boing said “You need a good manager like TM take find good players cheap and make them into stars”
Err hello, what proof do you have that he has this gift?? Hibs don’t count by the way.
Now it HAS been proved that MM has the gift. Look at the gems he unearthed last season.
Blimey – if Morgan can fit in that shirt (see above) I think your keeper problems are over… Makes fatty Fowkes look like Pete Docherty.
@ all WBA.
Why are you commenting? We have ANOTHER chairman who loves this club and will pump money into it. I don’t see your chairman investing 30 million into your club.
Just shows what a great guy sir Jack is having nothing but 10 pounds for the sale of the club.
Quality Counts – He hasn’t spent more than £10 yet?? Yet he sanctioned the purchases of Eastwood, Jarvis, Elliot and Ward.
We bought no players in the Prem??
Silas, Craddock, Camara, Cort (personally paid for by SJH) and Jones amongst the players we did.
And what the living hell is a “balloon payment” you goon
Report abuse
Not sure that 30 mill will do the job its the same old figure all the time is this all he is willing to put in between now and ever, after all he had only paid £10 so far and got the best seat in the house
Report abuse
The great thing about this take over is when (not if) we get to the Prem, we will be one of a very few fully English owned clubs. Makes you feel proud, eh?
Quality counts strikes again thinking WOlves are Real madrid.
I’m sure Steve Morgan will be great for Wolves,Lets remember there would be no Wolves if it wasn’t for Sir Jack.
Sir Jack rebuilt Molineux and Wolves as a club.I’d like to say a BIG thankyou to him on behalf of all true Wolves supporters, and also wish Steve Morgan the best of luck during his time at Wolves
Report abuse
Quality Counts – you are a complete MUPPETT!!!
Why don’t you join the Tesco mob and do us all a favour
Report abuse
Lets face it Everything goes ’round in cycles 5 years back Chelsea had won about the same as us and look where a mass of investment has got them, or look at Leeds now in league 1 whereas 5 years back they were in Europe, Reading & Wigan small fan base now with decent Prem Teams (not so much Wigan now but..). We will be a Sucessful team once more like we were in the 50s 60s & 70s. These things take time though and for Morgan to make such a bold statement, you can tell he means business. We should be aiming for a top two this season and I don’t care what anyone says, non promotion is not an option. Though I Think the Best thing we can do as fans is let McCarthy and Morgan do their thing and support any future aquisitions, and also current players like Gray who seemed to have been judged before they’ve even kicked a ball. it’s all looking good for us all be it the loss of murray :( but I’m sick of hearing un-loyal fans talk rubbish, just get behind the team, as we can be the 12th man and get out of this damn division!

Wanderer (55) says why are we commenting – are you the same wanderer that is all over our stories ? – dont try to take the high ground – it just makes you look (more) stupid.

Err, I say, you give more lessons in stupidity than you receive Mr H Baggie

You have to have a good feeling about this takeover.
A wealthy scouser with Anfield connections, could get fost dibs on one or two Liverpool transfers??
He doesnt strike me as a guy who’d put up with the likes of Hoddle or Maghee. Will be interesting to see how his relationship with Moxley will develop??
Anyway, onwards and upwards, dont change the name of the ground, its Molineux. Never appreciated Sir Jack living in the Bahammas anyway, taxdodger.
Champions League in two seasons time??
Quality Counts – you sad person. You are obvious a shallow minded prat that can not see the bigger picture Sir Jack has done for the club. We are now a stable club which without Sir Jack would not have had the interest from investors like Morgan.
Sir Jack is a legend for saving our club from extinction.
Good bye Sir Jack and hello Morgan’s new vision.

Money well spent and a n enthusiastic team we cant go wrong, entertainment all the way to the Prem, this year or next.
Lets build something solid and we wont be doing a Boing Boing.
Quality Counts is spot on!
Instead of insulting him, here are some questions that the SJH is God crowd never respond too.
Where was SJH when the Bhattis came in to ‘save’ the Wolves? Fiddling whilst Rome burnt!
Who saved the site and club for the Wolves when we were in Division 4? John Bird, (Wolverhampton Council), Dick Holmes and Jack Harris plus Asda. SJH joined the Board as an Honorary President/Chairman.
Who built the ground? SJH built two stands (not 4!) and put new seats and toilets plus catering in the Steve Bull. The national govt paid for the South Bank in a Public Private Finance Initiative.
When was the training ground complex built? Far too late ie after our competitors.
What about the team? 16 years of Division 2 plus one in the Prem is nothing to be proud of.
If you think he saved us then how?
Check out what has happened to the likes of Bolton, Reading, Middlesboro, Wigan and Leicester and think again!
Reality check please SJH fans.

We all know what Sir Jack did to Wolves. But please let`s not be carried away by changing the name Molineux Stadium to Sir Jack Hayward Stadium.
There are other means to remember Sir Jack, say a Statue or a Wall outside the stadium. But please leave the name of the stadium intact as it is synonimus with Wolves and remember we are this year celebrating the 130 anniversary since the founding of the club.
Ha Ha Ha. Not exactly Roman Abramovich is he? £30m over 400years wont exactly have Fergie worried now will it?
Anyway isnt he an armchair Liverpool fan who had never heard of the Dingles until a couple of months ago, and he is only interested now because he can’t afford Walsall!
Could have spent his tenner better in Asda over the road!

Wow I get knocked again! Sorry should have said parachute payments not balloon. They look the same to me sorta!
Sir Jack did wonders, I saw it all. Just check and see where Dave Jones got us? and the following year? did someone forget that? think this weekend when we have Watford to contend with!
If you owned the club and really cared about the fans and had millions in the bank, as Sir Jack has, wouldn’t you do everything possible to stay up? For sure you would have! Sir Jack did lots, but he let us all down by not investing in the clubs future in the Premiership… can anyone argue that point?
Maybe Morgan can do wonders, as regards “overseeing the 4m spent”, anyone could oversee without spending it! All stayed in Morgans pocket, money game from sales of our quality players like Miller and Lecsott. Couldn’t we do them for Saturday?
