Calls not returned to mother
Thursday 9th August 2007, 11:35AM BST.
The Express & Star’s bin troubleshooter is on the case.
Mr Bin is chasing answers for people around the region who feel they are not getting the waste collection service they are paying for.
Mother of two Baljit Dhillon of Linden Lea, Finchfield, found her bin abandoned by binmen last Friday with a note explaining they could not take it because the lid was up.
She said: “I called the City Direct number on the card they left on the bin and was told someone would collect it Monday or Tuesday.
“I’ve called twice but no-one is returning my calls.”
Wolverhampton Council spokesman Tim Clark said he would “look into the matter”.
A 62-year-old woman from Sutherland Road, Cradley Heath, who asked not to be named, said: “Our green bins were meant to be emptied last Thursday but they’ve been left there for a week. I’ve been on to staff at Sandwell Council four times and they keep saying they’ll take it away but they haven’t.
“Ten bins have been left there because they said there was an obstruction. But it’s a cul-de-sac so they have to reverse in anyway.”
Councillor Mahboob Hussain, a Sandwell cabinet member, said missed collections should be reported on 0845 3597501, adding: “A supervisor and crew have been dispatched to Sutherland Road in Cradley Heath this morning.
“There are issues with access as parts of the road are very narrow and we do use a smaller type of vehicle to carry out collections there.”
There will be more trouble-shooting in tomorrow’s Express & Star. Keep your calls coming – Mr Bin is here to help.

From what I’ve heard from others aswell as experienced myself, it seems that the standard of service is appalling with every council in the region. It certainly couldn’t be called value for money and makes one wonder what our council tax is actually for.
If a private company were to provide such a shoddy service as our local councils, I’m sure they wouldn’t remain in business for long.

To all Wolverhampton residents reading this message board, this is Tim Clark of Wolverhampton City Council Press Office. While we think it’s great that Mr Bin is solving problems with waste services – you can also raise these directly with the council by calling (01902) 551155 from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday or from 9.00am to 2.00pm on Saturdays. Alternatively, email City.Direct@wolverhampton.gov.uk

yes tim clark, we could do that.. but you people at the council dont seem to listen to us!! here’s an idea, collect our bins on time and put them back where you found them, it’s not rocket science. if your van doesnt fit down a certain street then get your bin men to put on a pair of gloves and carry the rubbish to the van. I dont see what the problem is. something as trivial as refuse collection should not be a huge issue. every other country i have visited has a better service for their customers (and let’s not forget that we are customers) If only everyone had the balls to say enough is enough and stopped paying councils to tell us what we are doing, and we started telling councils what to do.

Our bins are collected on time every week, shame they’re not returned to our houses. 14 bins are abandoned in our car park every week, they even have the nerve to dump them in a disabled parking space leaving the driver to park further away when she can hardly walk. Myself and several neighbours have complained to the council but nothings changed

Tim nice to hear from you, but we all know you guys don’t care about Joe Public, just like the rest of you Council employees.

Karen you are so swallow minded arent you. Dont tarr us Council empployees with the ame brush. I have had countless problems with my bins and other probelsm with the council although I work for them. We are Joe Public too. Oh I forgot you lot all think we dont pay council tax, or we get a discount on certain services – there are over 15,000 people working for the council from directors to social workers to street cleaners to lollypop men. And we have probably at some point beared the brunt of inadequate council services just like you!

Along my part of Penn Rd Wolverhampton… the service has been exemplary. Thank you fellows !.
I asked for a second “Green Bin” and it was promptly supplied: and both are emptied on the due days
