Morgan deal ‘very close’ – Jez

Tuesday 7th August 2007, 6:31PM BST.

moxey.jpgJez Moxey today confirmed the Wolves takeover is ‘very close’ to completion – as the club make preparations to finally begin life under new owner Steve Morgan.

As revealed in the Express & Star yesterday Wolves are confident of unveiling Morgan as Sir Jack Hayward’s successor ahead of the first game of the season against Watford on Saturday, ending three months of frustration for both parties.

“We are very close now,” the Wolves chief executive said.

“There is definitely a possibility that it will be completed before the end of the week.

“We are hopeful it will be very soon but we’d rather not be held to a timetable at this time.”

It is 11 weeks since the club first announced a deal was imminent, but Moxey defended the length of time it has taken to secure the agreement.

“Some of these things take alot longer than 11 to 12 weeks to complete.

“Three months to do a deal like this is actually not a particularly long time.

“We were all expecting it to be done much quicker than it has been done but everything is going to plan with the deal – except the timescale.

“But there are no concerns whatsoever regarding the deal – there is absolutely no cause for concern.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy hopes to have his squad finalised before the visit of Watford.

Transfer-listed trio Tomasz Frankowski, Denes Rosa and Jemal Johnson were left out of the team photo yesterday, confirming the effective end of their Molineux playing careers.

But Jamie Clapham was included, hinting that he may still have a role to play if he can’t find a move away from Wolves.

Seyi Olofinjana also missed the picture but his future is secure – he was sitting an exam for his degree course.

Wolves will step up their goalkeeper hunt later today.

Boss Mick McCarthy is confident of having a new stopper in place before the Hornets visit on Saturday.

Apparently the delay is all about complications relating to offshore trusts. Would have been nice not to have the overhang though as the season starts. Love the quote that there is “definitely a possibility”. Last time I used that one was when I was stuck in the pub half an hour away and the missus asked if I’d be back within 10 mins!!

I would not be surprised if the takeover is formally announced at Saturday’s game. As a result of this a new right back should be signed within the next week to 10 days.

MM has already said that he is happy with the squad (I know – strange or what) and that he dosn’t want any new signings, so whether Morgan takes over or not you are stuck with Breen & Co.

Malvern Wolf – that will NEVER happen.. there is far to much material.

The Steve Morgan takeover is to be applauded and anyone who believes that such a complex takeover can be done and dusted within ten minutes has no knowledge of Company Law and how barristers work (often to their own financial advantage !)

It is unfortunate that the transfer window will close almost immediately after Mr. Morgan takes over but as we all know that MM has the nucleus of a squad that can and should win this division. We have the three best strikers in the Championship despite what a failed West Brom Manager at Bramall Lane may think !
