Saddlers run rule over trialists
Monday 23rd July 2007, 11:57AM BST.
Walsall are weighing up possible moves for three foreign trialists – including a Gambian international and a midfielder from non-League neighbours Hednesford.
The trio made surprise appearances at Worcester City yesterday as Richard Money’s men opened their pre-season campaign with an uneventful goalless draw.
And manager Money looks set to take an extended look at the three before deciding whether to try to add them to the five summer signings he has made so far.
The trio are Gambian international winger Edrissa Sonko, Brazilian striker Junior – not the same player who previously starred for the Saddlers – and former Portuguese under-21 international Mario Pedro, pictured.

Money said: “Edrissa Sonko is a Gambian international who’s played over 100 times for Roda in the Dutch first division.
“Junior is a striker who has just come in for a few days so we can see how he is, and Mario Pedro was at Hednesford last year and he did well against us on a couple of occasions.
“We thought we’d have a look, but that’s that really.
“There’s no timescale, we’re just having a look. I still think we need to bring in two or three players before the season starts and I’m pretty confident we can do that.”
Three of Money’s five new signings emerged unscathed from 45-minute run-outs at St George’s Lane as the manager gave almost all of his professionals half a game.
Danny Sonner and Paul Hall made their first appearances back in Walsall colours and Tommy Mooney figured, but Rhys Weston and Carlos Carneiro must wait for their debuts.
