Luke is Moore than happy
Monday 23rd July 2007, 11:00PM BST.
Luke Moore has revealed his determination to be a part of the ‘new Villa’ as the club aims for Europe again.
The 22-year-old striker flew to Canada for the start of the club’s pre-season tour yesterday admitting he has been wooed by the exciting developments to restore the club to the top.
Under owner Randy Lerner and boss Martin O’Neill, £13m has been splashed out turning Bodymoor Heath into a world class training facility, while over £20m has gone on new signings – with four or five newcomers still to come.
Villa have also become only the fourth British club after Manchester United, Arsenal and Celtic to secure a multi-million pound kit sponsorship deal with global giant Nike.
Moore will be competing for a place with John Carew, Gabby Agbonlahor, Shaun Maloney and new signing Marlon Harewood up front.
But he’s prepared to battle to be part of what he is convinced is an exciting new era for the club.
“I’m a Villa fan and I’m excited by the direction the club is moving in. Things like the Nike deal and the new training ground show we’re moving forward,” he said.
“I’ve been at the club for a long time and I’ve seen a lot of ups and downs.
“We’re in a transition period at the moment, but it’s a positive one and that’s the most important thing.
“This is a big club and we need to be pushing forward.
“The new training ground is amazing – it’s got to be up there with the very best and it can only help us as a group to be training in such superb facilities.
“The old Bodymoor served the club well and I suppose a few boys were sad to leave in a way, but this is a professional sport and you’ve always got to look forward.
“The chairman is trying to do that off the pitch and we’ve got to try and push on. It’s good we finished last season well, but that’s in the past now.
“We’re looking to do a lot better this season and finish a lot higher up the table, but talking about it is the easy part – we have to do it.”
