richardmoney3.jpgWalsall boss Richard Money today admitted his hunt for new players might drag on beyond the start of the new season.

Money is still on the lookout for three or four more new faces after adding Danny Sonner, Paul Hall and Tommy Mooney to his squad.

But Money is determined to fully assess his existing players before rushing into wholesale signings, and that could push his recruitment drive past the opening game of the season against Carlisle on August 11.

But Money is determined to fully assess his existing players before rushing into wholesale signings, and that could push his recruitment drive past the opening game of the season against Carlisle on August 11.

“There are a couple (of deals) that are close, but like I’ve said all summer ‘it’s never over until its over and I think there might be three or four before we start,” said Money.

“I can’t say exactly when they’ll be. The transfer window isn’t over until the end of August so it might happen after the season starts.

“The big thing now, coming into the period of games, is that we’ll have a better idea after two or three games what we might or might not need.”

Money has played down the prospect of Derby pair Lee Holmes and Richard Jackson being among the arrivals.

Defender Jackson was a confirmed loan target last season while reports this week have linked winger Holmes with a move to the Banks’s Stadium, but Money believes both moves are unlikely at present.

“I don’t know where that’s come from,” he said. “We tried to get Lee Holmes on loan last year but he got injured while he was on loan at Bradford and I would think now Derby have gone up to the Premiership he will want to try to push his claims there.

“It’s not an option for us right now.

“We tried to take Richard Jackson on loan at the end of last season but he picked up a knee injury in training.

“He’s one we’ve discussed over the summer but he’s got a year left on his contract at Derby.”
