Davies’ agent in price plea

Friday 13th July 2007, 5:04PM BST.

curtisdavies6.jpgCurtis Davies steps out for more Albion pre-season action with a fresh appeal for the defender not to be priced out of a transfer.

The England Under-21 defender wants to follow Diomansy Kamara and Jason Koumas, who secured Premiership moves this week.

While his former team-mates prepare for life with Fulham and Wigan respectively, Davies is out in Croatia preparing to face Hajduk Split tonight.

His agent Phil Sproson believes Davies will be at the club “until he’s 74” if the Baggies  continue to look for £10m for the defender – although he does accept that Hawthorns chairman Jeremy Peace has not put a figure on the captain’s head.

But the Baggies will certainly want a deal hitting the £8m mark and have already let it be known that long-time Davies admirers Spurs will have to do better than the £6m-plus Wayne Routledge offer being suggested around White Hart Lane.

Middlesbrough and Portsmouth have also been linked to Davies while a further round of speculation suggested he could be on the shopping list of new Manchester City manager Sven Goran Eriksson.

As it stands, Albion insist they have not yet had an offer for a player Sproson describes as the “jewel in the crown” to reject.

Sproson said: “Curtis is the most valuable asset the club have. The only thing that’s worth more than him to them is the ground. He’s the jewel in the crown.

“But he wants to be a Premier League footballer and he feels that he’s a victim of circumstance who is being held to ransom.

“At the meeting I had with (Albion chairman) Jeremy Peace, when Curtis was present, he wouldn’t put a figure on his head.

“People have mentioned £9m but Curtis will be there until he’s 74 if they expect to get that.”

Didnt see him kicking and screaming last season when he signed a 4 year deal.
Didnt see him kicking and screaming when he was sat on the sidelines with his foot in plaster collecting a fair wedge every week.
Now his head is obviously inside out with his ‘advisers’ trying to move him out.
Best thing for the club is to get shut before he gets another metatarsul jobby and we have to pay him again

Hmm… This is getting pathetic now, he’ll end up going for about 2m if your not careful (which would justify his ability) as the clubs involves are gonna look towards other, better targets. Do any of your players want to stick around?

P.s. don’t reply with any of your stupid comments about McIndoe, We can do without him, at least the rest of our team want to play for the pride of the Black country!

Curtis is under long term contract only signed last summer – his contract terms made no mention of him being guaranteed premiership football and had no release clause should we fail to get promoted.

A contract is a contract and is certainly not “holding him to ransom”.

His agent is attempting to breach that contract and obtain another fat fee off the back of Curtis Davis.

Maybe this is his agents fault for poor foresight and failing to negotiate a release clause !!

If He wants Premiership Football, Then he has to earn it too many Players think they have the god given right to be there, WBA have twice had to nurse him back from injury and at critical times in the season, If he hadn’t been injured who knows he may have been playing premiership football this term but like all the WBA fans like myself we have to put that behind us and move forward. EARN YOUR PLACE IN THE PREMIERSHIP and it will feel much better when you do HAVE FAITH CURTIS. You are the club Captain so lead the team to the Premiership and lead by example. WEST BROMWICH ALBION do not want 10 Million they want Curtis Davies and premiership football read between the lines and you’ll see that means with you on board.

If Davies wanted out why did he sign a new contract last year? extra money? He could have put a clause in the contract stating if we didn’t go up he could leave for 8 Mil? Mr Davies Feels he is a prem player so why shouldnt we get top dollar for him? The reason the club offered a 3 year contract was to protect their intrests not his!!! If I was you mr Davies I would get a new agent, as for the age he will be when he leaves try 2 more years not 74 and I really hope Albion put you in the reserves and lets you rot.

Presumably this is the same agent who advised him to sign a contarct extension last year. For me he’s no more than a £5M player and prone to errors. We didn’t miss him much when he broke his foot again. Peace is right to hold out for as much as possible. Hopefully with time left to spend the money!

When agents decide the selling price of a player, then football has lost the last touch of credibility. Jeremy Peace is doing good business for us and doesn’t need lessons from a man with a vested interest. Tell him to get lost Mr. Peace.

Why don’t agents just button their lips. I am sick and tired of hearing this whingeing. Davies wasn’t slow to sign a new contract last season was he! He is contracted to West Brom so the sooner he realises that Peace is not for turning the better. Peace has proved what he can achieve in the market and with the like of L Baines at £6m being rejected then Davies is worth substantially more. Once again it’s agent sputing off – he must be down to his last million in the bank ! And as for saying he’ll be there til he’s 74 what garbage – he’ll be too old at that stage! Get used ot it Davies you’re goner be there fo a while. and if you don’t play then TM will drop you like a stone. You can rot in the reserves for 3 years if you don’t want to put the effort in. Effort = Good performances = Recognition = Somebody buying you or we get back in the Premier which is where you want to play!

We all know (and pray) that this dispicable player is moved on ASAP – but JP is right to hold out for the figure he wants – lets just have no talk about him playing for us ever again. Some bunch of mugs will stump up 8 or 9 million for him and so we should just sit and wait.

We see players being sold from every club these days – but never have I heard of anyone acting in quite this way – maybe this is why clubs who may be towards the bottom of the league (Fulham, Wigan, Sunderland etc..) won’t touch him – he aint a battler.

I would rather see the Baggies in the championship for the next 5 years than have money grabbing judas’s like Davies in the team.

This agent was telling us how wonderful Davis is but he doesn’t think he’s worth £9 million in todays over-inflated premiership.
I think Davis has been over-rated from the start. He has potential but he has a lot to learn.

I wish Jeremy Peace all the best in his efforts to get as much money for him as is possible .

Is the agent squirming because he advised his player to sign his contrsact?

He should not be captain if his heart is not with the team.

You can’t have it both ways. If you didn’t want in, then you shouldn’t have signed a deal. My heart bleeds.

The agent’s motivation is clear. However, the other clubs shouldn’t moan about the price tag either. One of the decent things Robbo did was take the risk to sign him when others wavered. The other clubs wouldn’t take a risk and he did. Now they expect to get him on the cheap? Tough – should have put their money where their mouth was two years ago; that’s life I’m afraid.

Somebody has to start the ball rolling with an offer. Until then we have to assume nobody is interested in one of the many weak links in our leaky defense from last year. The agent is doing what agents do and talking about his player. Why the E&S has to waste space with such a non story baffles me.

Unbelievable!!!!. Can you believe some of the comments from his agent?. Wasn’t this the guy who negotiated a new four year deal last year on better terms after we got relegated?. I bet when he was negotiating his contract he kept reminding the club he was well worth the wage increase because he was worth at least 10M. He also reckons he is worth more than the ground but then he says we are pricing him out of a move. In the agents words he is “West broms prized asset” and “West Broms best player”. If this is the case why does the agent expect us to accept a bid around the same money as Kamara?. Get a grip you numpty!. On the other hand shouldn’t we take the money and run?, but we all know where the money will go or not so to speak. Don’t get me wrong I think Cutis Davies has all the attributes to be a top player however…….. I watched him in that England U21 game early last season at Pride Park and he only did two things in the game, mistimed a header and ended up breaking his nose on the keeper and gave the ball away which led to a goal.He only played around 30 games for us last season and broke his foot twice so 6M…… shouldn’t we sell?. I think he is very over rated. At Championship level he is probably one of the best, if i’m honest we probably couldn’t attract a player any beeter if we were in the Prem but good enough to play for an Arsenal, Tottenham or Liverpool I very much doubt it. I think some of these footballers live in cloud cuckoo land and believe their own hype afetr all you are only 22 Curtis and if you are good enough you will get picked for your country. At your age would it really hurt you to stick it out knuckle down and give it one last effort with the Albion this season to make sure you achieve your dream and play in the Prem the season after next?. Did you not say after the Leicester game less than 6 months ago i want to win trohpies with West Brom (Which is a little un realistic lets be honest) and play in the Prem (which is achieveable). Come on Curtis get a grip. Better to be a big fish in a small pond than warming the bench for a bigger club.

An agent talking up his players’ frustration is to be expected.
But as has been said before he has a contract, with West Brom that HE was happy to sign last year, and pocket a hefty signing on fee no doubt.

So now it is up to other people to prize the “jewel” from our crown, and not for the agent to keep wailing and prattling on. On a point of English Grammar too Mr Sproson Being held to ransom is to demand money for something that does not belong to you. Mr Davies is an ALBION player, we have his registration until someone else is prepared to put up the right cash, but hey what can you expect from the educational apptitude of a football agent.

The agent probably drives around in a porche or the like…..so tell you what Mr Sproson: I’ll give you £500 quid for it…you have to say that’s as fair an offer as trying to force us to sell someone for below accepted market value. Now get real and when the price IS right then and only then can you come on down.
Until then find another player at some other club to secure a long contract with; so that next season you can force a break in that contract too.

If we get a fair offer then I would be more than happy to see him go, after all he only played a bit part last year, and thus maybe he needs to prove himself again first.

Curtis “Donkey” Davis am i ired of hearing about him moaning in the press what a superb player he is and should be in the premiership, well you aint good enough kid. Thats why at Under 21 Level you only had a handful of games and was always 3rd of 4th choice.

You can be a big fish in a little pond in the Championship or get lost in the great sea of the Premiership where he will spend most of your time on the bench – sorry, your used to that at the Albion.

Personally, I would be happy to see you go for 6m, to save paying your over infalted wages that you agreed to on a FOUR year deal only last season.

Go to Spurs and be a squad player please, so we can stop hering about how good you are….

Albion were brave enough to give you a break from Luton and there were no Preimership clubs knocking then for your services.
