Mowbray seeks six signings
Thursday 12th July 2007, 11:59AM BST.
Albion boss Tony Mowbray today outlined the scale of his planned Hawthorns rebuilding job by revealing he wants six new players before the start of the season.
Mowbray has so far made two new signings, recruiting Craig Beattie from Celtic and Shelton Martis from former club Hibs.
But he’s also lost four players from last season’s squad, with Diomansy Kamara and Jason Koumas sold for a combined £11.3m and Steve Watson and Chris Perry allowed to leave on free transfers.
Mowbray remains optimistic of making a further breakthrough imminently, with Portuguese midfielder Felipe Teixeira, pictured, believed to be that likely arrival.

Mowbray remains optimistic of making a further breakthrough imminently, with Portuguese midfielder Felipe Teixeira, pictured, believed to be that likely arrival.
But with question marks still hanging over the Hawthorns futures of a list of other star names topped by Curtis Davies, Mowbray is eager to make further inroads.
“I understand we haven’t got the depth of squad we would like at the moment because a few people have left,” said Mowbray.
“But I’m hopeful we’ve got as many as half a dozen players still to come in before the season kicks off.”
Mowbray and his squad flew out on their tour of Croatia and Slovenia this morning to step up their pre-season preparations.
And the Baggies boss is adamant there are exciting times ahead at The Hawthorns as he pursues his targets and looks to build a team ready to take on the rest of the Championship.
“We’ve got seven weeks to restructure this squad of players and I’m looking forward to that challenge and putting together a team that can be very competitive in this league,” added Mowbray.
“It will be a competitive league because a lot of clubs seem to be having a go this year. Clubs like Wolves, Leicester, Norwich and Coventry have spent a few quid, as well as Charlton, Sheffield United and Watford who have come down.
“It will be a very competitive league like it was last year. But my message to the supporters is not to worry about the outgoings but be excited about the ones that are going to come in.”

Yes but when???
We need a battling or solder as Mobs calls it in midfield.
I would go for one of the following, Carsley (Everton),Gravesen (Celtic), Etuthu (Norwich),Mullins (West Ham),or from the released list (free) Stephen Jordan (Man City), Claus Jensen (Fulham), Quinton Fortune (Bolton), Mark Delaney (Villa).
My favourite would be Carsley from Everton, just what we need and he is a local lad. See you all in Slovenia!!!!!!

so looks as though he could sign very soon

Albion fans seem to forget that we

So thats about 15m to spend on new

The Albion are losing men fast
I fear Koumas will not be the last
Mowbray must dash
Spend some of his cash
Else 3 points will be a thing of the past
Report abuse
I agree with Andrew.Come on Mr Peace get your cheque book out and get the players we need instead of hiding the money away, and we end up with players on a free or players that cost next to nothing that not even the Dingles would want.
no dingles thank you
Report abuse
Ha Ha, Mark Davies, dream on!!

we will do no good while Peace is in charge (it,s like having Doug Ellis,s son in charge) Tony Mowbray likes to play nice football so they have to give him the tools to do it with and bring them in with enough time to weld them into a team not at the last minute so peace does not have to pay their wages any earlier than needed. The theory he,s getting the money for the other stand but whats the point if we are in a lower division and not filling the ground now, if we do go he will have an heart attack when he sees the wages he will have to pay then

message for nickwba,we dont want any custard bowl rejects, now or later.

6 more 50k players from Hibs?
Or shall we just buy the Kilmarnock team for 500k?
Its probably gonna end up being something stupid like that, but lets hope TM can dig up a few more gems like Koren. Free, wants to play for us, and doesnt do a bad job either.
(and its not gold its orange, get over it)

Trust Mogga.
The man will always find a gem in amongst the rubbish.
Martis can’t play the ball out from the back on the deck so expect him to be a bench player all season.
However, under Mowbray, he will have your club back in the top flight come the end of the season. At Hibs he tended to bring in his signing’s towards the end of the transfer window’s but to be fair to the guy, all bar 1 were good signing’s.
Good Luck Baggies for the season ahead.

Yeh probs webby, I have heard the Wolves are getting Stephan Jordan though.
why are wolves fans totally obsessed with us.what a sad lot we provedour supremecy over the years.
lets get behind mogga and we’ll be champs by christmas FAITH is the word.

When he’s finished signing these 6 that’ll leave Peace with about £10M in the bank, maybe Tesco could become a financial institute!
One other point was that I don’t think you will be able to convince 6 people to want to join Tesco that’s unless they have no other offers, as per the two signings to date!!!!!!!!!
do you really believe that Mark Davies would swap the Old Gold for a Tesco – be real!!!!!!!

My mom used to watch the Albion in the 50′s. She said that even then they were more interested in balancing the books than having a great team. It appears they’ve always been the same, I thought these days had gone. We seem preoccupied with saving money. Kamara okay he was quick, but he missed miles more than he scored. Koumas we will miss, he was class and I wish him well. Robinson and McShane are in danger of being forced out by the press turning fans agianst them , with constant want away stories. Players like Robinson and McShane would walk through walls for the Albion , I can’t understand why we are letting these people go. Its okay saying its for money but haven’t we been here before , Robson to Man Utd, Hughes to Coventry, and all those others we let go Hulse, Regis, oh and Big Dave – not good enough did okay for Derby though! If we don’t keep our good players where do we go back to the days of mediocrity when a group of eleven fans from the terraces could put on a better show. In the words of Jerry MacGuire – Pearce “Show me the Money!!”

beobridge wolf.
Let me help you out. On the yellow and black site the squad have apparently all taken their cycling proficiency tests – go and comment on that.
In Mowbray we trust.

christ you guys are narrow minded. Sure 11.3 million has come in, so what….. The club still has to pay for all its daily bills and the players wages. Are you forgetting how much Big Jon is getting? He has plenty of time to find some players, and of that list near the top i wouldnt go for any…
And if players like Robbo and Macca would walk through walls for us they wont go, and i doubt that they would feel ‘forced out’ by a few ignorant people on some message boards. And about Big Dave, we let him go because he is not a premiership player, all he has is his height and his abillity t head the ball, the only reason he was anywhere near the derby side was because of the injuries they had in the run up to the playoffs.
The players we have lost arent that much of a blow, Kamara sulked half the time and Koumas? You could go a whole game without seeing him do anything

West Bromwich Albion are one of the biggest clubs in the Championship so I do not understand why the board think in small terms.
Charlton Athletic has been successful because they are competing with other clubs in their area of South London.
The Albion do not have such problems as it has a much bigger fan base. Even though in reality we will not have the finances of an Arsenal and Manchester United, WBA have at the very least possess the capabilities of being an established Premiership club in the future as long as there are board members with the vision and imagination to match the demands of the supporters.

I don’t care how much these new signings cost or how much JP puts in his pocket – as long as we have a team capable of promotion (there are NO guarantees as we all know). If someone replaces Koumas and costs £1M or less and does the job then I’m happy.
Better to have hungry players who will play for the team than a bunch of overpriced misfits and big time charlies.
However if we spend little and are mid table then its time JP moved on. This is a massive season for us.Don’t let us down !!!!

Let’s face it, worrying about getting players in quick so they can mould together is almost impossible because anyone could still leave your club right up to the end of August. We saw it happen when Earnshaw and Horsefield left with no time to get replacements. To Mo is right to work with the squad he has and add to it as and when he can get the right players. I think individual players are overrated anyway in the modern game, that’s why England underachieve. Kamara was a good example, played for himself not the Baggies especially towards the end of last season. You could almost hear his agent whispering in his ear “They’re watching you Joe, go out and prove yourself!” He was like a kid in the park at Wembley (that’s that new place down south by the way for you Dingles!) he wanted to do everything to get noticed. I thought at one stage he was going to take the goal kicks! Ultimately we didn’t play as a team that day. Thanks Joe, you go to the Prem and take the money and if Fulham think that you’ll see out that 4 year contract… sorry must go, my pigs have just flown off!!

Lol i liked the ‘kilmarnock’ comment lol
Up the wolves, why dont TM scout bescot stadium on a sunday?

I love the close season with all the comings and goings of players.
It can be unsettling, but some things never change, for example: The inability of Wolves fans to know the meaning of the old saying, “Empty barrels make the most noise”

As a Goodison Park regular it never ceases to amaze me how many people (Real Madrid) included think Gravesen is a hardman – he’s not, he’s a playmaker and a libility defensively. He woould probably make an excellent Championship playmaker – but with Koren’s emergence in the last month or two of the season (from what I’ve seen) the Baggies don’t need him.
Carsley would be terrific, but as he was Everton’s 3rd or 4th best player last year (behind Lescott, Arteta and maybe AJ)- they’d be stupid to sell.
spending a fortune on a player does not guarantee they will be a success.
I remember Albion paying a club record fee for David Mills in the 70s but he never settled in.What we need is commitment and desire to play.Roy Keane dragged Sunderland no hopers up by the boot straps and Derby did not have any Prima Donnas but they still
achieved promotion.Give Peace a chance to get a few new faces settled in before moaning.Give the lads a bit of support.

Just read on Sky that Davies’agent is demanding we drop our asking price.. He also says the only thing more valuable at West brom is the ground. I don’t know how these guys can operate in business and be so thick !!
As far as i know we have not put an official figure on his head as we have not put him on the transfer list – its up to other clubs to offer us a figure and we will accept or decline.
The agent also says we are desperate to keep him – To MO has already said he dosen’t want these players if they want to go – if davies is still at the club in August I guarantee he won’t be in the team.
If spurs or anyone else wants him they can have him – but at the right price.
Curtis davies is the worst example of a mans integrity I have ever seen – in any walk of life. JUDAS !!

23 Boingbaggie. Big Dave made sure no one got past him in the play off final. so BD 1- Albion 0. I would prefer the heart and aggression of big dave in my team to over rated wussie Davies.

I can here the chants now One Shelton Martis theres only One Shelton Martis !! Must have the rest of the Championship worried by now !! ;-) Bob Findlay – did you mean to say “The Goings and Goings of players?”

Jeff – we went past BIg Dave loads of times at Wembley – we just didn’t finish (thanks very much Kamara & Koumas – oh they aint here now). Personally i would also prefer the heart of BD to Judas Davies – but BD aint good enough now. However we have other defenders to draft in – not like the traffic cones down the custard bowl.

West Brom need to bring in some expierenced premiership players. We havent got the biggest squad but i think we will get promotion,we worked well as a team last season and with Robert Koren and Paul Robinson(if hes not gone by then)in the team we can get ack into the prem. And i dont know what Wolves are talking about,we have been in the prem in 04/05 and 05/06 and then havent been in these last few years,we beat them 1-0 at home in the championship,3-0 away in the fa cup,3-2 at molineux in the playoffs and 1-0 at home in the playoffs and they beat us once 1-0 and they make a big deal of it.They are pulling at strings really.Come ack when you are in the premiership.Though i’ll probably be getting my pension by then.Good on McIndoe for leaving Wolves,he made a good choice.
CUM ON YOU BAGGIES!!!
