It was a magical day for music fans and an emotional time for Birmingham’s favourite son, as world superstar Ozzy Osbourne came back to his roots to perform at Birmingham NIA.

The former Black Sabbath frontman, and arguably Brum’s biggest musical export, was in the city yesterday to be the first celebrity to be inducted into the Birmingham Walk Of Stars.

A delighted Ozzy was presented with his own handmade brass star by Mayor of Birmingham Councillor Randal Brew in a ceremony attended by hundreds – some had come from as far afield as Glasgow and Manchester.

Arriving at 4pm, Ozzy was closely guarded by his management as he walked the red carpet in Centenary Square, chatting to fans and signing autographs. Many had been queuing for hours to catch a glimpse of the former Aston schoolboy.

Speaking to The Express & Star from the red carpet he said: “It’s amazing to be back in Brum. It’s such an honour and it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s just really unbelievable.

“Birmingham is a thriving city. There’s just as much talent coming from here now as there is from Manchester and Liverpool. I don’t come back enough, but I will be making an effort to come back more often.”

Ozzy’s sisters Jean Powell, aged 67, of Aldridge, Iris James, 65,of Kidderminster, and Gillian Hemming, 62, of Redditch, watched from the sidelines with the rocker’s son Jack.

I went to the concert last night and he was amazing. It is a good thing that Birmingham recognises its home made talent. After all it brought Ozzy home for the night giving his all to his fans and bringing money into Birmingham.

Apparently he hasnt been to Brum for years, and When he was on the Jonathan Ross show, he didnt appear particularly bothered about receiving this accolade, he was very flippant about it!

Yeah, he loves the place so much he couldn’t wait to leave. Just think: if he’d have stopped in Brum he might have had a world of opportunity being paid from the neck down..he sure missed out, eh.
