Boss backs Morgan to succeed

Thursday 28th June 2007, 3:00PM BST.

wd2127573steve-morgan.jpgBoss Mick McCarthy says his initial contact with new owner Steve Morgan has convinced him the Liverpool business magnate can bring success to the club.

McCarthy met the Wolves owner-in-waiting the day after the news was announced in May and has been in regular contact since.

And he feels the Liverpool business magnate is a man he can do business with.

“I have met him and Steve seems a really good guy. He’s been succesful in everything he’s done and you can be damn sure he’ll want to be succesful at Wolves too,” he said.

“Everything about him has been very positive and it can only be a good thing for us as a football club.”

Legal delays have prevented the new owner from being officially unveiled, but the hold-ups have had no impact on McCarthy’s recruitment efforts. In fact, news of Morgan’s impending involvment has helped clear the uncertainty, according to McCarthy.

“I’m sure the timing wasn’t accidental. It had been ticking along and I think it was announced at the end of the season so that the uncertainty was over.

“The wait for it to be resolved has had no impact on us in the transfer market. I don’t know anything about the delay, but it has had no affect at all.”

Wolves are again waiting on a decision from Billy Sharp after the striker completed the whistle-stop tour of his Championship suitors with a visit to Molineux yesterday.

Wolves are still hopeful of concluding a deal for the 21-year-old striker.

Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday have also spoken to the forward, but the Canaries are the only team to have stumped up the £2million asking price.

McCarthy has been revealed as having one of the safest posts in the Championship.Online bookies bet365 have opened trading on the annual sack race and only Stoke boss Tony Pulis is at longer odds than the Molineux chief.

It looks like we have our answer: Sharp is signing for Sheff Utd. No matter, I have faith in MM to bring in the right players. The hysteria surrounding Sharp’s signature has been remarkable. How many people clammering for JM to pay over the odds have actually seen Sharp play?

Why has Tony Pulis got a safer post!? Mick did more from a lesser position last year. Anyway, it would be a mistake to sack him, time and time again he has shown he can make a good Championship team.

I reakon Billy Sharpe was stalling things and taking his time on a decision in hope that Sheff Utd would come in for him. They have, and he is signing for his boyhood team. Any fan would do the same. Im totally gutted, but Eastwood’s still available. Just need to offer what Southend want in order to get a 20 goal a season player which we haven’t had since DEAN STURRIDGE!!!

Its unbelievable that people are calling for Moxeys head just because Sharp has chosen to join his boyhood team – What chance had anyone got when the lad had the pull of playing for his boyhood team? We’re NOT Moxey fans BUT we dont believe that anyone else stood ANY chance once Sheff Utd came calling – simple as!

Have no fear Wolves fans we WILL get in a decent couple of strikers and other players that MM wants AND if Moxey does not deliver what Morgan expects WE believe that Morgan will make his feelings clear and IF required get his own MAN in! Just a minor glich NEXT!

    Up the Wolves!!!

It is disappointing to lose Billy Sharpe to the Blades but Mick McCarthy and Jez Moxey are right to place their own valuation on players and not be sucked into paying silly money – there are plenty of fish in the sea. Steve Morgan is obviously no fool and I believe the current strategy of recruiting ambitious young players is right. Look back to Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Butt and the Nevilles. Alle they wanted to do was play for Utd. We need to persevere with players who want to wear the old gold.

You cant blame Moxey for BS signing for Sheff Utd. Its the team he supports so what do you expect. The only way we might have got him is to pay ridiculous wages and that would go completely against the clubs ethos at the moment.

Its Morgan, not Moxey who decides what money you can spend – it’s his money after all. So either £2M is out of your price range or Morgan ignored MM – who DID want Sharp. Not looking great is it.

Its a sign all the boo boys are out again, think the world revolves around wolves getting anyone if some people actually sat down and realised the transfer window doesnt open until the 1st July, and tht Billy Sharp sed because of this he would take time and talk to all clubs they would realise tht its all Billys desicion and not the wolves who had chased it more than u no. Wolves and Proud jus ashame theres still a few idiots around the Mol. Thts our problem not the board.

MM has done an excellent job, why shud we pay over the odds for players and then they come here and get injured most of the time…have faith in MM…he knw who he wants…and he’ll get them…and if dont get all the players we want…we’ll still be in a btter position then last season….support ur team and hav faith…otherwise go and supports the baggies, who are buyin evrybody that will make u happy. remember 1 man dont make a team….a team consist of everyone….agree everyone??

There are plenty of others out there. We dont need Sharp.Rely on Merlins ability to spot them at an early age. He’s proved he can. To “Happy Baggie”,all I can say is actions speak louder than words and our lads want to play for us, not like Curtis!!! Make my day, put in an offer for Moxey, you’re daft enough.

eastwood would be a nice goalscoring addition for keogh and ward … which we need !!!!!!

I havent seen lafferty but what i hear isnt he overkill with both keogh and ward????

Surely eastwood or healy are a priority as a proven scorer now sharpe is gone and hawley is at preston (my personal choice) !!!!
