Keane’s £5m double bid

wd2174913soccer-fixtures_f.jpgSunderland have lodged a combined bid of £5m to take Albion’s defensive lionhearts Paul Robinson and Paul McShane.

The Black Cats are awaiting an answer from The Hawthorns, but the offer provides yet another signal of the impending break-up of the team which missed promotion at the Championship play-off final.

Albion are facing a dramatic overhaul of their playing staff as Premiership clubs aim to pick off the best of the Baggies talent.

And Sunderland boss Roy Keane, who was linked to a move for McShane almost from the moment the final whistle at Wembley sounded, has now added Robinson to his list.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has made it clear any departures will be on his terms amid the growing speculation surrounding Diomansy Kamara, Curtis Davies, Jason Koumas, Nathan Ellington, Zoltan Gera and now Robinson and McShane.

But this is a sale the Baggies could find attractive, having paid out £250,000 for Robinson nearly four years ago and recruiting McShane from Manchester United in the deal which took keeper Tomasz Kuszczak to Old Trafford.

Robinson penned a new three-year contract a year ago, but will be 29 in December and this will be Albion’s last chance to make this kind of money on the defender.

And despite a strong bond with the fans, ‘Robbo’  has been among the players who have admitted they want Premiership football next season. But McShane, having revelled in his first full season of senior action after leaving United, was happy to commit his immediate future to Albion after Wembley.

Asked if he would be at the club next season McShane said: “Yes, as things stand. But football is a crazy game and you never know where you will be.”

Manager Tony Mowbray returns from holiday this week facing a total overhaul of the squad – and the prospect of business with Sunderland could lead to their reserve striker Stephen Elliott coming south.

Neither of them should be sold. I can live with Kamara leaving, his desire seemed to wane toward the end of last season when the rumours about Pemiership interest began but to sell McShane or Robinson would be irrational.

My predictions for the season ahead
Albion to sell whoever they want for the money they want.
Albion to sign at least 8 top class players.
Dingles fail to persuade any more players to sign up.
Albion to win the league undefeated with a record number of points.
    Dingles relegated by easter.

Does this sound at best,a load of carp written by a deluded, fractious, blinkered Albion fan.
    If so good!
now you dingles know how we feel when you put your, yes deluded, fractious, and blinkered opinions on our forums.

We need battlers in this division and both players fit that bill. McShane is such a good centre back that we had to revive Chris Perry at the end of the season. He was no better at fullback because he’s too rash and his distribution is poor. I’d take the money if we can get decent replacements. We could buy some wolves players as nobody else seems interested. Mind you we could get the whole lot for a tenner!

mcshane can go, how many times is he out of position ? when he is on the ball he always looks awkward, but there is no doubting his commitment, and playing under keane would be the making of him.
as for robinson is it just me or has he been carrying an injury for the past 3 months ? certainly not as quick as he used to be seems to lack energy in the last 20 miniutes of of most games. sell robbo and mcshane and play clem and hodkiss as fullbacks.

Robbo deserves the opportunity and the pay day.(he is getting a bit slow now anyway!) Thank you to him for the years of commitment. McShane is reckless and a sending off waiting to happen!!! Never destined to achieve cultured player of the decade award!!!

£5m buys a lot of irrationality!!!You know what Peace is like. £5m for Kamara, £5m + 2 players from Villa for Koumas, name your price for Davies, £2m for Gera, £2m+ for Ellington. That’s £25m almost as much as Wolves are getting to improve their team. Add that to the £14m from Sky and play offs and Peace will think he’s died and gone to heaven. Pity we won’t have a team though!!

Oh dear, the boggies are gonna lose most of their failed, overpayed pathetic excuses for football players. If you don’t have the desire then you won’t get anywhere. They are deserting a sinking ship like the rats that they are. Curtis £10 mill, your havin a laugh. Robinson at best is a decent league 1 / championship player and McShane is at best a 100% player and at worst a headless chicken. Sick of the sandwell town scruffs getting above their station. You are a small village in brum who’s so called “best side in the division” football team failed. Your manager has as much charisma and managerial know how as Stuart Pearce. Now go away and do yourselves a favour like go sweep up your High Street. It needs it !!

5 mil for them 2? What a joke, especially when that equates to 2.5m each, which is roughly the same as what us dingles sold Lescott for! A defender far better than them 2 put together. 10m asking price for Davies too? Again, Lescott far better. Get real, youre gonna lose half your squad (the better half too), Mowbrays gonna buy a bunch of donkeys to replace them, and consequently a small village on the outskirts of brum will end up a mid table joke (which would be overachieving for such a dump if you ask me). Good luck for the future, you’ll need it.

    Your comments are contradictory.
If as you say, failed overpaid not (overpayed) pathetic excuses,is a correct assumpsion,
then why would we keep them?
if you read Albion fans comments, we dont want them.
