walsall-fc-crest-07.JPGWalsall boss Richard Money today challenged his young guns to follow Scott Dann’s lead by earning long-term Saddlers contracts.

The Banks’s Stadium boss admitted more longer-term deals might be on offer after both he and Dann committed their futures to the club for the next three years.

But the manager said the young players would need to build on the foundations laid in last season’s League Two title win.

Money said: “New contracts are possible at some stage because we want to try to keep the nucleus of young players that we’ve got here.”

“But those decisions will only be made when people prove to us that they have both the ability and the mentality to stay with us over a number of years.

“We will make those decisions about players when the time is right, but for now everyone at the club is signed up for the immediate future and we’re happy with the positions we’re in on all of them.”

Money said the club are still no nearer a third summer signing, but insisted there is no cause for panic. And he hinted that one of the men already signed, winger Paul Hall, might be given the chance to begin his coaching career at The Banks’s Stadium.

“We are not actively looking for another coach,” said Money. “But maybe there is an experienced player out there who could do both jobs.

“I haven’t spoken to Paul about coaching yet. But he is doing his ‘A’ licence at the moment and so it’s something in which he might be interested.”
