Sedgley schoolboy Jordan Aveline is following in the slipstream of Lewis Hamilton by leading the karting series where Britain’s Grand Prix sensation began racing.

The 11-year-old heads the standings in the Kimbolton Minimax series in Cambridgeshire less than two years after he first sat in a kart.

And he is now keen to move into a national championship next year as he looks to follow hero Matt Neal into touring cars – and possibly emulate Hamilton’s success.

Dad Andy Aveline said: “For his 10th birthday Jordan asked if he could have a go at indoor karting, so I took him to the Cannon Raceway in Coseley and he just got into a kart and away he went.

“After a couple of test sessions one of the instructors spotted that he was really quick and he started to give him some instruction.

“He picked it up really well and got faster.

“Before long he moved into outdoor karting because he was out-driving the indoor karts.”

Jordan is now clear leader of the Minimax series, held near St Neots – the series that gave double Grand Prix winner Hamilton his big break.

But Jordan’s big hero is Stourbridge’s Neal, the British Touring Car champion.

Andy said: “He really loves his touring cars and Matt Neal is someone who started off funding himself and became champion.”

Jordan’s next ambition is to move into the national Stars of the Future series next year, but Andy is now appealing for sponsors to help fund the challenge.
