Wolves hit by Lafferty blow

Thursday 21st June 2007, 12:05PM BST.

lafferty.jpgWolves have suffered another knock-back in their bid to recruit the strikers for next season’s promotion challenge.

Championship rivals Burnley have stressed that Kyle Lafferty, one of three targets on manager Mick McCarthy’s hit list is not for sale after rejecting a formal offer from Molineux.

Details of the bid have not been disclosed, other than it being a straight cash offer, but sources at Turf Moor are talking about an offer in the region of £1m

The setback follows similar resistance from Scunthorpe in Wolves’ efforts to bring in Andy Keogh’s former partner Billy Sharp.

And while the Freddy Eastwood camp remain convinced his transfer from Southend is there for Molineux to secure at a moment of their choosing, efforts to add the two forwards McCarthy wants still have some way to run.

The setback follows similar resistance from Scunthorpe in Wolves’ efforts to bring in Andy Keogh’s former partner Billy Sharp.

And while the Freddy Eastwood camp remain convinced his transfer from Southend is there for Molineux to secure at a moment of their choosing, efforts to add the two forwards McCarthy wants still have some way to run.Burnley chairman Barry Kilby, speaking about the moves for 19-year-old Northern Ireland international Lafferty, said: “Wolves have been back in touch regarding the availability of Kyle.

“I had an initial chat with Jez Moxey last week when they first expressed an interest and we told them he was not for sale.

“Wolves have made an official offer for the player, which we have rejected immediately. Kyle is very much a part of our plans for the future and I reiterate that he is not for sale.”

All of that brought a firm “no comment” from Moxey today as Wolves continue to keep their cards close to their chest following yesterday’s opening move in the summer market, the signing of Gillingham winger Matt Jarvis.

The club remain active in their attempts to prise one of Chelsea’s young talents out of Stamford Bridge, the England Under 19 defender Michael Mancienne.

He spent the season on loan at QPR and played an impressive role in their successful survival fight before returning to his mother club. Mancienne’s first team future at Stamford Bridge is seen as limited.

Forget Lafferty. He is not a proven goalscorer which we need.Mr Moxey needs to earn his money and get Eastwood and Sharp signed up.More and more teams in the Championship appear to have cash to spend.
Burnley now reported to have 10 million to spend??
Teams always appear to get awkward when dealing with Wolves or is it the way we do business??
Wolves fans on the edge of their seats and not even a ball been kicked.
Well done for signing Matt Jarvis. He will be a quality player.

Could the delays be because the takeover has stalled??????? According to the BBC website the takeover has hit a legal snag, with no new time frame for the takeover to me completed……….. does anyone else get the feeling we are going to be left with egg on our face?

Lafferty is a donkey. Jesus I hope we don’t land him.

With redards to all this delaying, it takes time to get the best players. It is not like buying a mars bar from the local spar. There are big bucks involved and the deal has to be spot on for all concerned. Just look at the takeover – it takes time to put everything into place.

I don’t want us going back to the days when we were ripped of left right and centre. If JM and/or MM don’t feel it is right then I trust thier judgement.

    Everyone has to be patient.

forget this guy £1 MILL no thanks just because it wolves, we would get nothing back from him when he fails to perform, is this the guy who got more yellow cards than goals in 2006/2007.Just get the two hit men and pay what needs to be paid this is your last chance Jez because if Morgan dont get what he wants your OUT

It would be tipikal of Wolves to miss out on Sharpe and Eastwood because Jez is too busy argueing about a few hundred grand all the time. He just wants a big bonus to but more pies!!!11!! lolz!

Lafferty’s no way good enough – we need young and hungry players wiv heard of to win the league.

Agree with Tez it will take near £2M to prise Lafferty away, id much prefer Billy Sharp + Freddie Eastwood… Its very simple Mr Moxey all thats required of you is to pick up the phone and match Norwich’s bid the rest will take care of itself. Norwich or Wolves??? Its a No-Brainer in all honesty.

Suprise suprise, We are doing ourselves out of a deal to bring a goalscorer to the club, because of a few extra quid! all the add ons reportedly wanted are peanuts if sharp or eastwood help get us to the prem. “Signings are on the Way” i think we have herd that every pre season since i can remember then we do sign a person nobody has herd of for £20 and they wonder why we are sceptical.

shame he’s not coming, look’s a great prospect. look on youtube for the goal he scored v luton sheer class! better long term prospect than sharp I think, in fact I wished everyone would stop going on about sharp, he won’t score nowhere near as many in this division, and is not nor ever will be premiership quality! of course if he does come i’ll take that back lol

Time to stop mucking about. If we don’t clinch Eastwood or Sharp there are no other classy young strikers in this price range. We must get at least one of them and preferably both. £3.5m or so for them both would be good business and an absolute steal if it leads to promotion. Lafferty has promise but very raw and not a goalscorer. Go the extra mile Moxey and get the best not second or third best ie a crocked Elliott, Lafferty etc

I sometimes despair of Wolves fans. Sharp and Eastwood WANT to come to Wolves. We are the players first choice. It remains a matter of:

    1) Not getting into a bidding war with another club

    2) Meeting the minimum that will lever these guys away from Scunthorpe and Southend

There is no point going in and paying over the odds when you know that you’re the first choice and that you can play a waiting game.

Why are there so many pant-wetters and baggies posting on here?

I enjoyed last season more than any I can remember because the club and the team have come back to their roots. We did spend some cash but the benefits of hard work and honesty are there for all to see. If Freddy Eastwood wants to come to the Wolves great, but only if we get value. Why would Billy Sharpe not talk to Norwich when he already lives up that way an £2 million is on the table? Please lets not mess this up again by splashing the cash on more fat Bob Taylors.
