Lafferty is ‘not for sale’

Tuesday 19th June 2007, 6:00PM BST.

lafferty.jpgBurnley boss Steve Cotterill is determined to hang on to striker Kyle Lafferty despite interest from Wolves.

Lafferty is one of the three strike targets Wolves are pursuing this summer – and Burnley laughed off a near-£500,000 bid from Celtic in January for the 19-year-old Northern Ireland international.

The Championship club insisted he was “not for sale”  – and nothing has changed.

Cotterill said: “Mick (McCarthy) called me seconds before the Champions League Final kicked off, and I said: ‘You’re the last person I would expect on the phone with the Champions League Final about to start.’

“He said it wouldn’t take long, and enquired about Kyle, although there were no bids made.

“It didn’t take me long to say we didn’t want Kyle to go anywhere, and that was that.

“Their chief executive Jez Moxey then spoke to our chairman, and that was rebuffed. We wouldn’t want to sell Kyle.”

And Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins has denied claims that his club have given a “make your mind up” ultimatum to another Wolves target Billy Sharp.

“Billy has been given no such deadline by us,” says Adkins. “We want him to stay with us and have offered him a terrific new contract.”

Six clubs have enquired about Sharp but it is thought Norwich have come closest to matching Scunthorpe’s  £2m valuation.

Moxey is refusing to comment on reports that Wolves have increased their offer to £1.8m.

Meanwhile Wolves have rejected claims that they are one of the clubs chasing Sharp’s teammate Marcus Williams. The 21-year-old left-back has handed in a transfer request.

NORWICH!!! Im sorry but we cant mess around with a player like Billy Sharp if Scunthorpe want 2mil, THEN GIVE THEM 2MIL! Thats hardly overpricing for a player of Sharp’s ability.

As for Lafferty, though I would like to see him in gold & black. He doesnt come close to the likes of Sharp, Johnson and Eastwood, so lets just concentrate on them.

Norwich are not who we should worry about its Sheffield Wednesday who we should be worried of.

There is an auction going on here and Scunthorpe are waiting to see how much they can get but seriously Moxey slap down the 2 million!!!

Apparently we are close to our first signing according to wolves website so lets hope its one of Sharp or Eastwood.

superstard…Its not the speed at which you do something that is important but the accuracy and attention to detail. Bish bosh…and you end up with players that are bish bosh, not quality. For quality you have to pay and clubs aren’t daft, they know we have the money and will make Moxey MM sweat to get their target. Look at Lescott, Wolves made it hard for a club to get him for nothing, and in the end when the inevitable happend we got 5 mill, instead of 1.
Good business is not about bish bosh, its about doing things properly, which takes time.
Sharpe is speaking to the Canaries, it doesn’t mean he’ll go. Its only KP4 (for chess buffs) at this stage.
