Hundreds of sporty youngsters will descend on the city later this month after it was announced Aldersley Leisure Village is to host the 12th annual Black Country Youth Games.
Youngsters from Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall will battle it out in 14 sports on June 29.
Events will include athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, judo, netball and tag rugby as well as cricket and football competitions for disabled youngsters.
And the task of picking the lucky young sportsmen and women has already begun, with sports clubs and schools across the Black Country picking the stars who will represent their borough.
Sports Partnership chairman and Wolverhampton councillor Phil Bateman said taking part in the games would help city youngsters learn some valuable lessons.
“The Youth Games will not only provide young people with an introduction to competition and comradeship, but also celebrate what is best in sport in the Black Country,” he said.
“There is a real commitment to provide all young people with quality sporting opportunities which enables them to both enjoy and learn from taking part in a sporting activity and also go on to perform at the best of their ability.
“There is no doubt that some of the young people taking part will become our future sporting ambassadors and you never know, some may even go on to feature in future Olympics Games”, he added.
