police17.jpgA woman was violently attacked in Cannock’s town centre park as she walked home from a night out.

The victim, believed to be a 20-year-old woman from Cannock, was assaulted at the park entrance closest to the town centre in Stafford Road, at around midnight.

Police officers closed off the whole recreation ground this morning. A team of eight police officers and police community support officers were standing guard over park entrances.

Staffordshire police spokesman Emma Stanley said the woman suffered a “violent assault” but her injuries were not life-threatening. The victim was now in a comfortable position and assisting Cannock CID with their inquiries.

Detectives do not have a suspect and have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Dave Green, of Cannock Police, said: “The whole park has now being closed as a potential scene because there are a number of exits and entrances.”

Anyone with any information should call CID on 08453 302010 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
