Posters have been put up around a village near Wolverhampton in a bid to uncover more information about an horrific attack on a horse.

A 19-year-old mare called Maggie had to be put down after being slashed and cut with bottles in a field in Essington last month.

Villagers were shocked by the violent attack and have teamed up to produce a poster with a picture of Maggie in a bid to get information.

Two anonymous donors have already put up a total of £1,500 as a reward for information.

David Clifft, chairman of Essington Parish Council, said he hoped the posters would keep the incident in the public eye.

He said: “People are still talking about it because it’s an horrific crime. This will bring it back into focus.”

The mare, who belonged to Davina Bowyer, was attacked overnight on April 13 at Essington Hall Farm.

Maggie suffered horrendous injuries, including cuts to her back leg, a severed achilles, and a smashed front leg.

Police this month arrested two 18-year-olds from Ash-more Park, Wednesfield, but are still seeking information. The teenagers have been released on bail.
