Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Davies thanks ‘best fans’
Saturday 19th May 2007, 4:59PM BST.
Departing striker Craig Davies today targeted a Championship reunion with Wolves next season – as he thanked fans for their “unbelievable support” during his year at Molineux.
The forward, who scored twice during his nine month spell, is heading back to Verona after Mick McCarthy opted to pursue other targets in the summer.
But Davies insists he has nothing but happy memories of his time as a player at Wolves – and is hoping to find a Championship club and return to Molineux next season.
“I’ve enjoyed it – there is nobody out of the club that I’ve got a bad word to say about. Even when I wasn’t playing I was still giving it 100 per cent in training for the gaffer,” he said.
“I knew I wasn’t staying, but I was still gutted for the boys that they didn’t do it on Wednesday.
“I’ve learned a lot and that will only help me. I would just like to thank the gaffer for the chance he gave me. It’s been good for the last ten months and all I can do is thank everyone. I’ve now got to go and take that on somewhere else.”
Davies’ says the abiding memory of his time at Wolves will be the fans.
“They were absolutely unbelievable this season – the best I’ve ever known as a player or as a fan,” he said.
“They always supported me, gave me encouragement and gave me a great reception when I played – they were brilliant. That kind of support does encourage you as a player and I would just say to them that it has helped us so much this season.”
The striker is unlikely to return to Italy – even though he is tied to a long-term deal at Verona.
“I’ve got four years at Verona but I’m not too keen to go back,” he said.
“I’d like to get back into the Championship.”

Wolves fans love a hard workr and a tryer who always puts in graft and effort …. which craig definitely showed.
Although not on the face of it not the greatest footballer he always gave 100% (but that never hampered bully).
I have the unsettling feeling he may come back and haunt molyneux one day.
However i wish him all the best and i wish i could say this of every player who has played in old gold .. i think he earnt his money.

It takes alot for a player to come out and do an interview after learning that he will no longer be staying at the club. Good luck to him and i’m sure we will cross paths at some point and he will score against us!!!!
Roll on the McCarthy revolution….

What a fantastic valediction! Craig always gave 100% and let no-one down. Pity he just did not have that killer touch in front of goal. He deserves to do well, and leaves with our best wishes.
