Albion captain Paul Robinson is convinced Kevin Phillips can still play in the Premiership after his two goal blast helped sink Wolves in the play-off first leg.
Phillips took his tally against the Molineux men this season to three in three games as he broke through the 20-goal barrier for the campaign.
The 33-year-old poacher also now has five goals in his last two games and Robinson reckons that proves Phillips still has the fitness to play at the top.
“Kevin is a Premiership quality striker and it was a great plus for us getting him,” said Robinson.
“I know Villa were keen to keep hold of him but Kev wants to play football and he wasn’t guaranteed first team football there. He’s come here and done a fantastic job for us. Throughout his career he’s proved he can score important goals and yesterday he got another two.
“He can still do it in the Premiership without a shadow of a doubt.
“He keeps himself very fit and he’s got a great physique. If he can stay in great shape he can go on for as long as he wants, injuries permitting.”
Phillips’ red-hot form is a major boost for the Baggies ahead of the second leg.
And Robinson believes Diomansy Kamara will also be firing on all cylinders for the Hawthorns return after netting the winner at Molineux.
“Joe was a bit quiet, but he can have those games when he is a bit quiet and all of a sudden he can be a massive influence for us,” said Robinson.
“Hopefully by the time the second leg comes around on Wednesday he will be charged up.”
Robinson can’t wait for tomorrow’s second leg at The Hawthorns after the thrilling first game whetted the appetite.
“It was a great game to play in,” he said. “It was end to end stuff and both sets of players were passionate.
“The fans turned out in the numbers and gave us fantastic support.
“They always get behind the team as much as they can and hopefully on Wednesday The Hawthorns will be bouncing.”
