Tourist attractions and businesses in Stafford are being urged to join forces to boost the number of visitors to the town.

Tourism chiefs are arranging a meeting to try and get a definitive “what’s on” guide published to ensure Stafford is seen as the “place to be”.

Members of Stafford’s Tourism Bureau want local businesses to work together and are holding a networking event at the Oddfellows Hall at 2pm on June 7.

Geoff Elkin, Stafford Tourism Bureau project leader, is calling on festival organisers, churches, local attractions and businesses to work together to develop the town as an overall “tourist attraction.”

He said the meeting was being arranged to allow local organisations to swap leaflets and information about events they have planned which could also potentially be a boost to other local businesses.

Mr Elkin says the bureau is working towards the town having a definitive what’s on guide incorporating all the events taking place.

He said: “At the moment there’s lots of little what’s on lists but what the town really needs is one comprehensive guide so that everyone is aware of what is going on.

“We want visitors to know all about what Stafford has to offer and the key activities taking place. We want the town to be considered as the place to be.”

He said anyone interested in promoting their business or attraction was welcome to attend the meeting.

The Chamber of Commerce, Stafford Music Festival organisers and the Twinning Association are all set to attend as well as other interested parties.

He said: “This is an open invitation to all local organisations to get together and talk about what they have lined-up.

“It will be of great benefit to the businesses themselves as well as visitors and residents.”
