Mowbray: Attack, attack, attack
Wednesday 9th May 2007, 8:01PM BST.
Boss Tony Mowbray has challenged Albion to break the 100 goal barrier before they sign off for the summer.
Sunday’s 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley left the Baggies just four short of the milestone in all competitions – with two guaranteed games against Wolves and a potential play-off final to come.
Mowbray has pledged to continue to play the expansive game that has become his Hawthorns trademark in the Black Country play-off battle.
And he hopes four more goals against Mick McCarthy’s men to bring up the century could also prove enough to take Albion to Wembley.
“Let’s hope we’ve got three games to go and we can reach the 100-goal mark,” said Mowbray. “We’ve got 81 goals in the league, which is a great credit to the players. We try to play an expansive game, where you try to entertain because we’re in the entertainment business.
“I was talking to a very close friend of mine, who sat and watched Sunday’s game, and he still wanted to talk about how vulnerable we were at times.
“That’s fine, but we scored seven goals and if we’d have let one in we would have been disappointed – but we’d have taken 7-1 as well. My point is it depends on your philosophy.
“Some people are about keeping clean sheets and winning 1-0, and great if you win promotion like that.
“People can never knock you because it’s there in the history books. But I would rather win by scoring goals and trying to entertain. Sometimes you can’t score, and we haven’t scored enough goals at home of late.
“If we had we would have been promoted by now, I would suggest. I’m pleased we’ve scored so many goals over the season. It goes hand in hand that the goals-against record isn’t as good as a Birmingham or Sunderland, who have gone up. It’s about getting the balance right and once we can adjust that, I’m sure we’ll still score plenty of goals and cut down on the ones against.”
“You’re not going to be far away if you’re scoring 100 goals and only conceding 30.”
Mowbray was relieved to beat the Tykes on Sunday and secure Albion’s first home win in six attempts.
And he believes it means the Baggies will be heading into their double header with Wolves full of confidence.
“I think we’re going into the play-offs on a decent run,” he said. “We’ve got the monkey off our backs about the home form in good style.
“We should look at the next home game in confident mood. We won three out of the last four away games and we have nothing to fear going into these games.”

The only reason we didn’t beat Wolves at The Custard Bowl was due to your keeper and Joe missing 3 one on one’s!
Let’s see how a young Wolves team cope with the pressure of a 2nd leg at The Hawthorns, should be very interesting!!!!!!!
