At next Tuesday’s meeting of the Lichfield District Council executive, members will be asked to consider proposals for how the council can help to ensure the development of sustainable communities.

This will be done through controlling the size and nature of future housing developments in the district.

And if the proposal is approved by the executive, the council will be asking for local people’s views on the proposals next month.

Richard King, corporate director of democratic, de-velopment and legal services at the council, said: “Lichfield district is an attractive place to live and how we manage our future growth is fundamental as we know how important the character and identity of our district is to our communities.

“The consultation proposals going before councillors next week back up the council’s commitment to ensuring all development sites are assessed against criteria that will help ensure new developments are sustainable, and also help meet the crucial need for affordable housing.”

The issue of housing and its future in the district is outlined in all three manifestoes of Lichfield’s main political parties ahead of next Thursday’s elections.
