Security has been increased on a Wolverhampton building site after a suspected arson attack lit up the city skyline and destroyed the wooden frame of a new apartment block.

Dominic Harman, managing director of Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said the fire had not affected the final completition date for the block of 11 apartments.
He said: “The scaffolding that was around the former partially-constructed apartment block has been carefully taken down.
“We are now carrying out preparatory work to the foundations in preparation for the reinstatement of a new timber frame structure around mid-May.
“We intend to complete work to the three storey apartment complex by the end of the year which is in line with our build programme.”
The Deans Park development also includes two further housing blocks which were nearer to completition when the fire engulfed the neighbouring structure.
