Kevin Pumphrey was diagnosed with cancer five years ago, shortly after witnessing the 9/11 disaster in New York.

The eggs will be split between the charity’s sites in Walstead Road, Walsall, and Worcester and Selly Oak.

A total of 28 riders from Birmingham and the Black Country, Tamworth, Coventry, Leamington and Warwick arrived at the hospice followed by three carloads of eggs.

Kevin, aged 40, who organised Sunday’s run with fellow rider Lissa Wiltshire, said: “We expected 200 eggs but more than 400 children Acorns helps can have a great Easter. It is fantastic.

“I’ve known of the good work done at the hospice at Selly Oak for many years.

“I will also be celebrating five years’ survival from prostate cancer on April 4.”

In 2005 Acorns was forced to axe a total of 12 beds because of a shortfall in funds.

Selly Oak hospice head nurse Lindsey Homeraid: “This is so thoughtful. All our children will get a treat this Easter thanks to the riders – they even brought the staff a box of 110 mini eggs.”
