Appeal as show dog is stolen

Sheelah Christison, of Pelsall, said long-haired chihuahua Benji could turn on his captors if he becomes frightened.

She has contacted police to help her search for her beloved pet.

Mrs Christison’s two other dogs managed to escape the clutches of the thieves who struck on March 28.

Benji is described as five years old, with a dark red and brown long coat.

His owner said today: “Benji was rescued from some children who treated him badly when he was younger. When I took him in he could be quite a savage dog, but in the three years that I have had him, he has become a lovely pet and a show dog.

“However, following his previous experiences he may become frightened in the hands of a person that he does not know and could bite.”

She said since the theft she had been scared to let her two remaining dogs out of her sight.

Police have issued an appeal to track down the missing dog who they believe was taken by someone climbing over the garden fence.

Inspector Ian Redfern said: “We are worried for both Benji’s welfare, and the welfare of anybody who has taken him, so please contact the police if you have any information on 0845 113 5000.”

In July last year masked thieves snatched four chihuahuas worth £4,000 from a back garden in Aldridge in front of the stunned owner.

Sonya Phillips couldn’t believe her eyes when she spotted two men scooping up her four bitches Minnie, Ellie, Vicky and Sindy. They have not been seen since.

Two of the dogs, snatched in Dartmouth Drive were also believed to be pregnant.

The owner offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves.
