The 36-year-old is recovering in hospital today after being attacked at The Eagle in Bloxwich where another man suffered a head injury.

The shooting is believed to have happened in the pub.

Creswell Crescent, where the pub lies on the Mossley estate, was cordoned off with police tape for hours after the shooting which happened at 11.30pm on Saturday.

Police were back at the pub today combing the inside for clues and gathering evidence. Glass lay shattered over the pavement in front of the pub and there were several bullet holes through the front window.

Judy Hanif, who lives in Cresswell Crescent, said she had been shocked to hear what had happened after returning at midnight from a party on Saturday.

She said: “We were told we would have to wait to get back into our homes. There were police officers everywhere and then someone told me that a man had been shot. It’s terrifying.”

Six men have been arrested. Four have been released on police bail but two men, aged 65 and 45, are still helping with inquiries.

Police said anyone who was in the pub or has any information should ring them on 0845 113 5000.
