Man hurt in vehicle smash
Saturday 10th March 2007, 7:00PM GMT.
A 54-year-old man suffered nasty head and leg injuries after a collision with a van in a crash as he got out of his car in a Black Country town centre.
He was hit by a Ford Transit in Walsall after it was in collision with a Vauxhall Astra moments earlier.
There were delays for several hours as police blocked Bradford Street and Caldmore Road to do a reconstruction after the smash at 2.30pm yesterday.
Buses and cars were diverted along Midland Road. Police say the car was travelling along Caldmore Road and collided with a van heading towards Pleck, on Bradford Street.
The man was getting out of his Ford Galaxy, parked on the opposite side of the road, when hit. He went to Walsall Manor Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.
The County Air Ambulance was called along with an ambulance and a community first responder.
Paramedic Hew Jones said: “The man suffered quite nasty head and leg injuries.” Police said the male driver of the Transit, from Willenhall, and his female passenger, both 20, were unhurt.
The Astra driver, 30, was arrested for failing to stop at the scene of an accident and released on police bail. Witnesses should call Walsall road policing unit on 0845 113 5000.
