Hospice celebrates 25 years
Monday 26th February 2007, 11:45AM GMT.
The wonderful work of Wolverhampton’s Compton Hospice was celebrated at a prestigious anniversary ball.
More than 200 people gathered at Patshull Park for the hospice’s Glitter Ball which marked 25 years of caring.
Business leaders who have worked tirelessly over the years raising funds for the charity sat at grand tables alongside city dignitaries who said they were proud to be part of the commemorations.
Mayor John Davis was guest of honour with his wife, mayoress Noreen. He said he was “lost for words” when it came to the marvellous work of Compton Hospice.
He said: “This is one of my chosen charities along with Acorns Children’s Hospice. They give people respite and they are very good at caring for not only people with troubles but their families as well.
“The people at Compton have the greatest understanding and sympathy for people’s situations. The volunteers who have given so much of their time and dedication over the years to raising vital funds are to be commended.”
Among the guests were staff from recruitment firm Pertemps and Chapel Ash letting agents Lawsons, who have held many fundraisers to pull in much-needed money.
The charity’s patron, businesswoman Ruth Badger, of TV’s The Apprentice fame, was also lending her support.
This week a new logo and website were unveiled which management feel better reflects the more modern face of its care.
And a £300,000 transformation of the hospice and grounds is also on the cards. The revamp will include a transformation of its four-and-a-half acres of woodland and lawns. The hospice has applied to the Department of Health for two grants to improve outdoor and indoor facilities. Top landscape and interior designers have been commissioned to mastermind the work.
