Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre will close during the summer while it undergoes major refurbishment work.

The whole of the auditorium is to have new seating, forcing the popular Lichfield Street venue to close in July and August.

The closure will affect the theatre’s repertory season, which will move to the Arena Theatre in Wulfruna Street.

Iain Watkins, marketing manager for the Grand, said letters with information on the closures were being sent out to rep season patrons.

He said minor upgrading work would also be carried out in the box office and backstage.

He said: “This has been in the pipeline for some time.

“We had planned to refurbish the auditorium last summer but we could not fit it in so we are doing it throughout July and August this year.

“We will be informing all our rep patrons very soon about what is planned.

“We understand that Arena will be launching the rep season in March.”
