Shock as syringes dumped
Friday 2nd February 2007, 12:01PM GMT.
A bag of drugs paraphernalia, including used syringes and dirty spoons, was found dumped outside a Black Country home.
Steven Martin, of Coronation Road, Woods Estate, Wednesbury, found them outside his home – on a route used by children.
The 42-year-old British Gas technician said he was appalled at what he found when he was putting his bin out yesterday.
“In nearly 20 years of living here I have never seen anything like it,” he said.
“I was putting my bin out as I do every week and I saw a Lloyds Pharmacy bag stuffed down between the wall and fence at the front of my property.
“I wasn’t sure about it and put on some disposable gloves to have a closer look.
“It was full of drug equipment. There must have been 10 syringes, spoons that had been burnt and some filters or little wraps of drugs. All the tell-tale signs of drug abuse were there.”
“It’s along a route walked by lots of school children which makes it more dangerous. Anyone would have easily grabbed the bag.”
Mr Martin said he contacted police and was told it was a matter for Sandwell Council. “I would have at least expected someone to come down and look at it but they just told me to call the council and have them take it away,” he said.
Friar Park councillor Geoff Lewis said: ‘I cannot believe this has just been left here. Anyone could have picked this up. What if a child had picked this up? It could have killed someone.
“It is absolutely outrageous that this can happen.”
