With a top speed in excess of 170mph, a 0-60mph time of around 3.5 seconds and a relatively reasonable price-tag of £45,000, staff at Xtreme Automobiles in Dudley expect plenty of interest in the X-Works concept car.

The high-performance model has caught the eye of Chan, who is honorary team director with Ralliart, a firm with links to the Dudley firm.

John Kirkham, manager at the showroom in King Street, said the car was a rare glimmer of light among the doom and gloom surrounding the UK motor industry.

The rear of the concept car on display“I think this is an example of what made the region’s motoring industry great,” he said. “It’s certainly fast. It will be cheaper than your Porsches but will more than compete in terms of speed.”

He explained the designers based at the town centre showroom had used state-of-the-art materials in building the car.

“They’ve used a carbon tub, the only other cars that use that are ones like the McClaren SLR or Porsche Carrera GT, which both cost £250,000, or the Enzo Ferrari, which will set you back around £560,000.”
