Sorensen: We need a win
Thursday 18th January 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
Comeback keeper Thomas Sorensen today insisted Villa’s clash against Watford on Saturday has become a ‘must-win’ game.
And the Danish keeper joined the chorus pleading for new signings to boost their chances.
Villa are locked in their worst run for 20 years after going 11 league games without a win – 12 in all competitions.
The sequence, which dates back to the November 11 win at Everton, is also the worst of manager Martin O’Neill’s career and has plunged the club from sixth to 15th in the Premiership table.

And the Danish keeper joined the chorus pleading for new signings to boost their chances.
Villa are locked in their worst run for 20 years after going 11 league games without a win – 12 in all competitions.
The sequence, which dates back to the November 11 win at Everton, is also the worst of manager Martin O’Neill’s career and has plunged the club from sixth to 15th in the Premiership table.Sorensen made his comeback in the defeat against Manchester United last weekend after a nine-match absence through injury.
“We need to pick up points and it’s essential we beat Watford,” said Sorensen. “We need a win.
“We need to get back into contention for the top half of the table.
“At the moment it’s not looking too good, so we need to turn that around.
“The Watford game is massive. Hopefully we’ll have one or two players coming in and we need to win that game. That’s the focus now.
“We had such a good start, now we’re back to square-one.
“It’s been very frustrating on the sidelines. The team hasn’t done well and I just wanted to get back in.”
Villa lost 3-1 at Old Trafford to complete a trio of defeats against the Premiership leaders in as many weeks.
And it could have been worse but for two superb saves from Sorensen to deny Henrik Larsson.
“I thought we played very badly for the first 20 minutes and it was hard for me to settle,” he said.
“Personally I was pleased to be back and I made some good saves in the second-half, but overall it was a deserved victory for them.
“We have to keep the ball better and not give it away in crucial areas. One or two of the goals were down to that.
“For me it was important to get back in. I hadn’t played for seven weeks and to return at Old Trafford, you know you’re going to have plenty to do.
“I thought I could have done better with the second goal. Another week or so in training and I would have saved it.
Sorensen added: “I thought Milan made a fantastic run for the goal. He put himself about all game and got his reward.
“It got better in the second half, but we still let them create too many chances.
“You can’t let Manchester United create 10 clear-cut chances and expect to get away with it.”
