Will Souness boost Wolves?

Graeme Souness Readers give more views on Graeme Souness’s plans to take over Wolves:

* “Souness has gone public to try and put pressure on the club. His action makes it obvious why the club doesn’t negotiate in public. I realise journalists have no choice but to go after the story, but do I think Moxey or Souness has Wolves best interests at heart? Not even close, and it ain’t a man who runs to the media. I’m a fan and I love knowing what’s going on, but we don’t own the club. We should be heard and can apply pressure, but sometimes we have to accept that hard business is best done in private.” Steve Harris

* “If the £20 million was an investment into the club on top of a purchase price for the business and premises then the chat should commence between Souness and the board. If it is £20million for the full monty, then best to ignore such pathetic attempts to keep an ex-manager’s name in the media.” John Eades, Woking, Surrey

* “The reason that Moxey turned it down was simple. He knows 100% sure that if Graham takes over he is out of there in nanoseconds. ” Peter, USA.

* “It is time for a change. We are grateful for what Sir Jack has done in the past but he does now appear to have lost interest. A club of our stature, history and reputation should not be looking for players in the bargain basement. We have a tremendous fan moxey2.jpgbase who deserve better than they have received the last few years. We need new direction and new owners and Graham Souness is perfectly acceptable to me. I have no doubt he would be a big success, but he must retain Mick McCarthy as manager.” John Smith, Stourbridge

* “I want to see the Wolves back where they were when I first saw them play over 50 years ago but lets not make the same mistake again. The bid needs looking at by financial expertsm Sir Jack may be many things but a mug he isn’t.” Max Pinson, Chesterfield

*”Sir Jack said £20m in a moment of flippancy and is now regretting it? Does he want to loose the reins or does he expect someone to ladle in £20m without control? Has Souness got the money? Do the club not respect the backers? Is it just a load of hot air?” Ronald Davies

* “There is now doubt that we do need a change of board and its about time that a board member actually knew something about football. I personally think Sir jack has massively undervalued the club. However, there is an offer on the table and maybe it’s time to take it, our manager is doing a fab job and with some new investment – who knows how far we could go?” Neil, Dudley

* “Investment, investment, investment – that is what we need! Is it really? What short memories we have, after spending years watching dreary football being played by overpaid deadwood this season we are seeing some real passion. In the summer we brought in over £10m from the sale of players, probably cut the wage bill by two thirds, with the kids, Mcindoe and Kightly we have a team as strong as before and only one point behind the Baggies and the play offs. Our club needed the massive culture change it got in the summer.

“The only one left behind was Cort. Let Mick keep on finding his bargains – there are plenty still out there and build our club around hard work and enthusiasm in line with the fan base. To the normal man in the street £20m sounds a lot in football, it can be wasted easily. Pay £1m for John Hartson and £2m for Nigel Quashie, pay them both £30k per week on four year contracts, that is £15m of your £20m – would that get us sirjackpa2.jpgpromotion and a place in the premiership I think not. We would all agree that Mick is the best manager we have had for a long time, just one question, who recruited him ? Get off Moxey’s back he did not buy Frankowski and some of the other rubbish.” Joe, Essington

* “Wolves is a very promising work in progress. A young and hungry squad with a manager who is clearly putting together a team that is attractive to watch and has genuine promotion potential – if not this season then maybe next. Nothing should jeopardise this exciting progress, especially after the deadening episode of the Hoddle era. Everyone knows that a very major cash injection will be needed to sustain a promotion, together with astute signings. So we do need a buyer now that Sir Jack has decided to call it a day. I admired Souness as a player and he is clearly a “football man”. But I was less than impressed with his management career, especially his man management skills at times. I am worried, like others, that he would interfere with team matters and perhaps destabilise the club at such a promising time. I would prefer another buyer – but I might be wrong about the guy!” Clive Bullock, Bolton

* “Yep. Let’s get it done, times a wasting. Premiership here we come, Yahoo!” Liam Maher, Alberta, Canada

* “If Sir Jack thinks he’s going to get a buyer from this region, I’m afraid he’s going to be disappointed. He’s been waiting for three years now and know one has come calling (well so they tell us). My point is for this club to go forward we obviously need someone to mccarthygene-s13.jpgcome in and bring not just new investment but new ideas and a drive to succeed and in my opinion Souness brings that desire to succeed. As long as his backers are verified and commited to the club I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t take over, just leave big Mick alone – he’s done wonders this season.” Pete Goode, Wednesfield

* “This tug of war for our beloved club is like a breath of fresh air to us Wolves fans. We have been so long in the doldrums that we need fast moving excitement to reignite our passion. A huge cash injection is very much required to haul us anywhere near the big four at the top of the Premiership. It is vital for the sustained future of Wolverhampton Wanderers in attracting young support. The comment about staying on the same course being “another option gathering momentum” is unwelcome. Some senior officials at Molineux will not want change as it could mean the end for them. No – we need this change and we need it quickly.” Michael Clutton
