Karen and Sean Ross, of Aldridge, only uncovered the scam after a suspicious woman from America contacted them to ask about Rosie’s Helping Hands charity.
The letter, believed to have originated in Canada, was sent to hundreds of homes in New York and New Jersey.
Mrs Ross said it appeared to be on headed notepaper after the fraudsters downloaded the logo from a website set up to honour their daughter Rosie Ross.
She said: “We were shocked when this lady contacted us to say mail was being sent out using our name in connection with a sweepstake scam.
“It appears they had been on our website and lifted the information before sending out letters asking for money for the charity to be in with a chance of winning a prize.”
Mrs Ross said details of the scam have been passed on to police in Canada.
Rosie was stabbed in Birmingham’s Centenary Square in May 2001 by a schizophrenic while sunbathing with a friend.
