Police in Burntwood have arrested two men after seizing 23 cannabis plants and growing equipment during a raid on a house in Chasetown.
Several officers swooped on the address in the Bank Crescent area of the town last Friday afternoon – and they have only just released details of the operation.
Inspector Ashley Farrington, commander of Burntwood and District Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said police had acted after a tip-off from the public.
Once inside the house officers discovered 23 semi-mature plants and associated equipment used for growing cannabis plants.
Insp Farrington said police would continue to crackdown on drugs.
“We acted on information received and carried out a warrant at the premises whereby several police officers were involved,” he added. “It also included the use of a drugs sniffer dog.
“Cannabis plants were recovered, as well as sophisticated equipment used for the growing of cannabis.
“We are determined to tackle drugs misuse within the community, and we want the community to support us with that, and we welcome any information on it.
“We want the community to feel safe from this kind of scourge.”
The two men arrested in the raid have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Peter Stevens, spokesman for Staffordshire Police, added: “This operation was part of an on-going police policy of cutting down on illegal drug use.
“We hope it will send out a very clear message that police and our safety partners are concerned about drug activity in the district, and will take action when we receive information.”
