Ladies spend thousands of pounds on making sure their nails look good during their lifetime.

Pampered girls will end up splashing out on average more than £3,200 for that perfect polish and manicure. Women visit a nail salon at least twice a year for a professional manicure, while six per cent will go once a month a more, according to new research.

But in the Black Country marvellous mitts count for a lot more with women spending more time and money on giving their nails the VIP treatment.

Nail care is one of the biggest growing beauty businesses in the UK, as British women become more focused on good grooming, worth approximately £77m a year.

But with a manicure costing an average of £15.56 a go, stunning nails add up to almost £2,000 in a woman’s lifetime. And the overall nails bill soon spirals with the price of nail varnish and hand creams coming to be more than £1,000.

Wolverhampton woman Louise Reece spends well above the national average when it comes to nail care.

Louise, 24, from Dunstall Park, splashes out between £40-£50 per month on false nails and aftercare.

“I visit the salon every few weeks. I get a full set of acrylic nails and then I return in the second week for a re-fill and tidy up,” she said.

“I tried to grow my own nails but they aren’t very strong and I don’t have the patience.

At least this way I don’t need to worry about buying nail varnish or maintenance as I go back after a few weeks for a new set.”

Of the 2000 women polled by Superdrug, more than a quarter give themselves a full manicure and 15 per cent say they constantly have their fingernails painted.

Women are getting their inspiration for their nails from the football WAGS with Victoria Beckham, Colleen McLoughlin, Alex Curran and Footballers’ Wives character Tanya Turner all featuring in the top 10 of nicest celebrity nails.

Almost two thirds of women say they feel more confident about themselves if their nails are done and 55 per cent feel sexier with long nails.
