There are not many artists who can give the vast exhibition space of Birmingham NEC an intimate party atmosphere.

But then it’s not often that the legend George Michael graces the city with his presence.

Bounding on stage with the same youthful exuberance and charisma that made him a household name 25 years ago, the controversial star proved why he has been such a major player on the scene for so long.

Clad in a tight shiny blue suit, with his trademark aviator shades and his immaculately groomed beard, he gyrated his way through scores of chart topping hits from throughout the last two decades.

The first part of the near two hour set was made up mostly of newer solo hits before it was time to be transported back to 1985 for school disco classics.

As soon as a huge backdrop fell down showing George in his leather jacket and jeans clutching an acoustic guitar, fans knew it was time for Faith, and the crowd went wild with joy.

George took his chance in the limelight to defend himself over a host of high profile tabloid stories, but he needn’t have bothered, as none of us really cared.

We were too busy dancing wildly to I’m Your Man and being entranced by the beautiful Careless Whisper.
