Big Brother is watching
Thursday 23rd November 2006, 4:42PM GMT.
What is the world coming to when a Labour MP is trying to ban a children’s toy in one of our shops? The toy in question is the plastic fast food kitchen set being sold by Toys R Us.He wants it banned because it may send out the wrong message to our kids about unhealthy food. Has he not heard of roleplay (it’s children playing, Mr Watson, as children sometimes do)!
How much more stupidity can we take in this country? Does Mr Watson want to ban plastic toy guns because our children might be encouraged to acquire the real thing? Does he want to ban toy prams and baby dolls in case it encourages our kids to become parents too early?
This country of ours seems to be suffering a serious idiot crisis just lately. We have a government that is totally obsessed with dictating and legislating against everything they think is bad for us. What ever happened to freedom of choice?
George Orwell wrote a good book many years ago and everything in it seems to be coming true. Big Brother is watching you. He’s watching you in the streets. He’s watching what you eat. He’s watching where you drive and park, so he can charge you more for it. He’s even watching the advertisements you watch on TV about sugar puffs.
My grandfather fought in both world wars. He was made a prisoner of war and was incarcerated in Colditz for five long years. He and his fellow comrades fought these wars against tyranny and dictatorship. What would they think if they came back now? Would they think it was worth it?
What kind of life do we have to look forward to? I think it will go something like this – in the future everything that is deemed bad for you will be legislated against and banned. Everything that is good for you will be heavily taxed to replace the government revenue lost by all those bad things that are banned.
Welcome to our science fiction future. I would urge people to think carefully when they vote next for the government and MPs like Mr Watson. It’s time for him and the other MPs to give us what we want and not what they think we want.
