Surprise call for Albion ace
Saturday 11th November 2006, 12:59PM GMT.
Albion’s Martin Albrechtsen was today celebrating a surprise recall to the Denmark squad.
Albrechtsen has been called up by his country for the first time in three years and will meet up with the squad for next Wednesday’s friendly in the Czech Republic after today’s visit of Norwich.
The 26-year-old, who joined Albion from FC Copenhagen for a then club record £2.7m in June 2004, won the last of his three caps in a 2-0 defeat by Bosnia & Herzogovina in 2003.
Albrechtsen’s surprise recall has been prompted by his impressive form for the Baggies this season, including a goal in the 4-2 win over Leeds.

The rampaging right-back has been covering for suspended Paul Robinson on the left flank of late, a role he was due to take up again today. But, while Albrechtsen appears to be at the top of his game, Albion skipper Curtis Davies admits he’s still got some way to go to get to back his best.
Davies was sidelined for six weeks after breaking his foot at Sunderland at the end of August, but returned for the 5-1 thrashing of Ipswich a month ago.
And although Davies has continued to look an assured figure at the back, he admits a few clean sheets would help convince him he’s back in the form that has made him one of the hottest properties outside the Premiership.
“My form’s been a bit up and down,” said Davies, who has been called up for England under-21s’ trip to Holland on Tuesday.
“I feel I’ve done okay and against Ipswich I felt comfortable considering it was my first game back.
“With all due respect I didn’t have to get out of second gear. It was quite a good game to come back into.
“Other than that my form has been okay, but I would like to do better. Our bread and butter as defenders is keeping clean sheets.
“I know that if I keep a clean sheet, no matter what else I’ve done in the game, I know I must have done something right to keep that clean sheet.”
Davies admits Albion’s attacking style of football under new boss Tony Mowbray is keeping himself and his defensive colleagues on their toes, but insists the Baggies have the quality to cope.
