hectorsam2.jpgWalsall striker Hector Sam has been called up by Trinidad and Tobago for a friendly next week – but he will be in the Walsall squad for the FA Cup trip to Macclesfield.

Saddlers have struck an agreement with the T&T Football Federation allowing Sam to face to Silkmen on Monday before linking up with his international team mates in Austria for their match on Wednesday.

Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince has not been named in the Soca Warriors squad.

The talks between the two parties have ended any prospect of a club versus country row over Sam’s participation in the match in Vienna.

Walsall boss Richard Money said: “Hector is going to fly out on Tuesday and he will meet up with them on Tuesday afternoon.

“He will be available for our match on Monday.”

The call-up is Sam’s second since his move to Bescot from Port Vale in the summer, but both he and Ince withdrew from their nation’s back-to-back friendlies against St Vincent and the Grenadines and Panama last month because of injury.

Ince, who is already T&T’s most capped goalkeeper, has admitted he is willing to sit out friendlies but the younger Sam is keen to kick-start an international career that looked set to take off until a broken leg wrecked his dream of figuring in this summer’s World Cup finals in Germany.

Walsall are hopeful that defender Chris Westwood will be fit to face Macclesfield after aggravating an old calf injury against Torquay on Saturday.
