Rice mill is ready to roll

Europe’s largest rice mill officially opened in West Bromwich today. The new multi-million pound mill belongs to East End Foods in Kenrick Way.
Covering 65,000 sq ft, the rice producer has involved more than £6 million investment. Bosses say the mill is the most advanced of its kind and will cut the amount imported into the area.
Tony Deep Wourha MBE, pictured, chairman of the family-owned business, said: “This is the type of investment that we will continue to make at East End Foods.”

Tony Deep Wourha MBE, pictured, chairman of the family-owned business, said: “This is the type of investment that we will continue to make at East End Foods, to enable us not only to expand our production capacity, but to continually satisfy a consumer who is striving for the best quality ingredients.”
The new rice mill is capable of producing about 36,500 tons of rice a year.
A plaque was due to be unveiled later today by David Milliband, Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, along with Geoff Hoon, Minister of State for Europe and fellow MPs Liam Byrne and Keith Vaz.
