70′s Pop star to teach drum sessions

Monday 30th October 2006, 8:00PM GMT.

Carl Palmer will spend Friday running drumming workshops with students at The Meadows School College of Sport in Oldbury.

Carl, born in Handsworth in 1956, rose to fame in the early 70s with his dynamic and energetic percussive performances and has developed a career spanning more than 40 years.

Recent collaborations with Frank Askew have resulted in the company Drum Clinics UK being set up to provide education, support and workshops.

Students, all young people with complex and profound learning difficulties, will have the opportunity to play alongside Carl learning different rhythms and sounds from drums when he is at the school.

The visit was organised by the school’s music therapist Amanda Collins, who said: “I’m sure the students will have an amazing time working through a musical medium they can all relate to.”
