An ever-increasing workload has prompted the move to Staffordshire Technology Park, in Beaconside.

The new base is to be called Haig House after Field Marshal Haig, who set up the Poppy Appeal after the First World War.

It is to be officially unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant of Stafford, James Hawley, on November 4 when he will also launch this year’s county Poppy Appeal.

County standard bearers from the men’s and women’s sections will attend the opening, when Mr Hawley will cut the ribbon and unveil a commemorative plaque.

The new Staffordshire HQ will provide a base for welfare, membership and fundraising staff and volunteers.

It will also offer a home to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), which also helps ex-servicemen and women in need and was previously based in a guard room at RAF Stafford.

The legion’s county base used to be in Co-operative Street, housing three offices, two members of staff and a group of volunteers.

Haig House boasts seven offices, five members of legion staff and two SSAFA employees, plus volunteers.
