Wolves hit by triple trouble
Tuesday 10th October 2006, 12:40PM BST.
And defender Clyde, who was set to play in the Saltergate game as late as this morning, will miss out after his troublesome shin injury flared up again.Striker Carl Cort is making ‘good progress’ with his groin injury, but will not figure against the U’s this weekend.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said he would not be rushing the trio back into action, and preferred to take a softly, softly approach.
He said: “Jackie won’t be playing today against Chesterfield, and if he’s not involved today he won’t be playing on Saturday. He’s just had a bit of a reaction to the hip injury and we hope it settles down.
“They tell me it’s a similar injury to the one Paul Ince had. We don’t want to risk him unless he is fully fit.”
Sorry
The Wolves boss also revealed that defender Clyde was all set to make his return, and was ruled out of the Chesterfield game only this morning.
He said: “He’s had a bit of a reaction after training and he’s sitting in the dressing room with ice on his shin now. He won’t be involved and he’s looking a bit sorry for himself because he thought he was going to get a game today. But he’s an important player and we don’t want to risk him.”
Cort is nearing a return and has returned to training, but will not play any part at the weekend, handing Leon Clarke the chance to continue his impressive recent form.
But this afternoon’s trip to Derbyshire does give Hungarian midfield er Denes Rosa a chance to impress as he makes his return to fitness.
The midfielder will start against Chesterfield and McCarthy will be looking to him to prove his match fitness ahead of this weekend’s game.
